I am new to the site and if I am posting in the incorrect place I applogize in advance. I was given a luger from what I can tell it is a DWM made serial# 9991 it also has the M stamp whic I believe is for military. I cant find any date on it as to when it was made. I have the clip whic has a wood bottom no stamp but the other parts have 91 stamped on them any info on this gun would be a big help thanks

"m" is the serial number suffix.....

looks like an alphabet commercial wich were the most produced luger there was I believe.
with the suffix m on the serial (they started with 4 digits 0000-9999 then once they past four digits they restarted the numbers and added a letter differentiating ranges of numbers instead of just starting at 0 and going to 100000000000 for instance)its probably between 1922-25 for the year of production. there is a sticky in the commercial section wich could help you date it further. military guns have the year or a code for the year they were built stamped on them as well as obvious and plentiful serial numbers on almost every part.

if all parts internal and external match and its original finish worth maybe up to 800 the condition its in on a good day ( maybe).
any nonmatched parts or refinishing 4-500$

the caliber should be .30 luger
unless I am way out in left field but I found this one in the database with a fairly close serial: 9227 m alphabet c/N upright MADE IN GERMANY .30

thank you both for the info as I said I am new to this and before I start to fool with the gun I wanted to make sure it was a shooter type gun and not something I would of ruined

I dont know if its a shooter it would have to be examined and disassembled to see if parts match. I cant tell from the pics if its refinished or not.
one of the guys who knows alot about lugers might be able to tell you that.

Okay I will wait to see if I can get more information on the gun. One of the things I have noticed is some parts are stamped with only 2 of the serial numbers (last two) and the toggle will not stay open it wont lock I believe it to be a 30 cal gun amazing craftmanship I would love to learn more about it.

Your commercial luger was made in the first half of 1924. To stay open it needs the magazine to be in. The mag button is what activates the hold open. If it still doesn't stay open you are missing the hold open device.

im guessing its not original finish but that is a guess.
here is a link to a site that sells ebooks about lugers for 7.95 u could buy a dwm one and it would go into great detail about your gun.
dwm has been around a long time and their is a lot of history on them . I read somewhere dwm (or was it mauser?) was absorbed by anheiser busch.
