Swiss Luger

Need some info on Swiss Luger

I found a Swiss Luger at an Alabama Gun Show.

It is in the 17xxx range. .30 cal. 4 3/4 in barrel

Frame, safety (grip), barrel, receiver, sideplate, grips, front toggle, are matching numbers. The toggle link and rear toggle are not numbered.

The receiver ring is marked P 58. there is no crest on receiver ring. The Toggle link has a "Cross in Sunburst"

The pistol is about 99 percent blue and 90 straw. bore is excellent. Grips have a border. Mag has brown plastic floorplate and is nickle plated with a P on the back of the mag. Any ideas on this and value would be greatly appreciated. No import marks. David.

Re: Swiss Luger

David, According to "Lugers at Random" pages 212 & 213, your 17K range Swiss luger is classified as a 1924 Swiss. Your description appears to be consistend with the book, except it describes the toggle assy as being marked "Waffenfabrik/Bern", so perhaps your toggle assy is a later M29 type replacement. This would certainly have a negative effect on its value. The "P58" marking incidates that it was released from military stores for commerical sale in 1958. Tom

Re: Swiss Luger

Thanks, the front toggle with the extractor is numbered to the pistol. the Link is not numbered. The Mark is not consistent with the 29 as the mark is Cross in Sunburst NOT Shield. The rear toggle link is not consistent with the 29 because the toggle is checkered on the knobs. it is also unnumbered. Any info is greatfully accepted. David.

Re: Swiss Luger

David, I've never heard of a cross in sunburst on the center toggle link. I suggest that you consult Uncle Ralph (Shattuck). You might have a rare one.
