Newbie need help
 

I just joined 15 minutes ago and i think this is where i should post. I was given a luger today. I have always wanted one. I have a few questions.

First what is the best way to identify what i have? I have pictures to post here im just not sure where.

What i know for sure is its 7.65mm, the barrel has a different sn than the rest of the pistol, magazine has no numbers and a wooden base. The pistol has a good finish with most all of the bluing, it also has dwc on the upper receiver.

Any advise is appreciated.

At first blush it sounds like you have a DWM commercial pistol. We would of course need to see photos to give you more information. Post them here for the time being and the moderators will move the thread if they feel it is needed.

this is the pistol. I know there is a lot involved in estimating the value of a firearm, however if anyone could give me a ball park value of what i have here. $50, $500 or $2000. any ideas are appreciated

Haha figured it was worth 50. Does it really look good? To me it does but i have seen no other lugers to compare it to. Also it jams about half the time. Stove pipe

I, also, am no Luger expert, but because it has been rebarreled, that puts it into a 'shooter" class, and not a collector class. It appears to be a 1920s DWM commercial "alphabet" Luger. I can't really tell by the photos, but has the stock lug on the lower portion of the back grip frame been ground off? In one photo it looks like it might be there, and another, not so. As a nice shooter grade firearm in 30 Luger caliber, approx. $6-700.00 is what they bring in my area of the Country. Other areas can go up or down depending on demand.

The back of the grip frame is smooth. However i noticed in certain light it has a slight area of indention. Looks like if it were a casting it would have been mold flash. Almost unoticeable.

not an expert in anything but I think in that serial range it should have stock lug.
bieng ground off would only hurt value to someone who knows lugers have them.

The landyard loop has also been removed. I think the value is probably closer to $400.

Looking at your frame numbers and suffix, if I'm reading correctly is an 'N'. The 'N' block was made last half of 1924, first half of 1925. With your serial no. and assuming a steady rate of production, prolly first part of 1925.
