Hey Guys...Ive got a question regarding this box of what i think is supposed to be Luger Ammo...9 mm.....its a DWM Box......but why does it have 8 mm on it..??....and it says the box is for 50 rounds so it must be pistol ammo.......anyway...I appreciate your thoughts....Hans Fischer

The 50 round boxes are usually commercial boxes. The German army procured them in boxes of 16 rounds (enough to fill 2 P08 magazines). There are some exceptions to this rule, but they are relatively rare. Here are some examples of WW1 German ammo boxes.
Shown as well is a commercial 50 round DWM ammo box (.30 luger, but the 9mm is similar in style). The last one is a navy box. They had their own packaging and label style. |
Damn Dave, that is one ugly weapon. but now I have to look it up.

Luger Ammunition & Germany
Back in the day.......Stationed in Germany 1961-1963...at Ramstein Air Base....We used to go over to the Rod & Gun Club right behind our building........and use the firing range......I had my 1918 DWM...and there was no limit to the 9mm ammo.....and the boxes all had on the top....".Fur Pistolen Und Machinepistolen..."....I wish now I had saved some of the boxes........one time they had a sale on Beretta model 34s .....in 7.65 caliber.....with holster and one extra magazine..$19.95.......someone dug up a case of P-38s in an old bunker.....they were going for around $30.00.....and to make the story even worse........there was a guy that his landlord had a case of MP 40 Submachine guns.....that he had buried in his barn right as the war ended....he sold them for $200.00 each.........oh well.....enuff of "the good ole days in Germany"..........Danke....Hans Fischer
