Just can't win sometimes.
 

UGH I can't seem to win sometimes. I ordered new grip screws from Numrich what I got was 1 new grip screw and an unknown screw for God only knows what. So I called them up and told them and they were very nice to send me out another one FREE of charge because of their mistake. What did I get? A used grip screw in worse condition then the ones that came on the gun. *sigh* Every time I order from them takes a week to get the parts, guess I'll give them a call next Monday and see what they have to say.

Then I needed a take down spring (the little tiny spring in the very front of the lower) and the only one I could find was from a gentleman in Warsaw Poland. I ordered it 2 weeks ago and its being held by the USPS up in New York for God only knows what reason. Luckily I was able to make my own out of .055 stainless spring steel that works perfectly.

Finally my new 1913 upper and barrel are VERY tight fitting so I've been carefully filing and sanding with jewelers files and 800 grit emery cloth using oil to lubricate the work and its finally getting to the point where its starting to work like it should but DAMN its taken me a whole day of work to get it to where it is and its still not done!

But I shall press on and finish it and it will be the nicest Luger EVER.... that I'll rebuild that is.

I have mixed luck with Numerich, actually haven't ordered anything from them in many years.

I personally like new old stock or decent / nice old parts.

Finding any of those parts you mentioned can be found on the forum, found on gunbroker or ebay :)

Even tho some bumps in the road I'm still enjoying the drive. I'm having a blast re-doing it!

Ordering from Numrich is like playing the lottery. I have received many good parts, but some have been absolutely useless and almost dangerous to use. For example: I ordered a trigger pin and a firing pin for an FN 1910 once. The trigger pin came without the rounded ends, should have been a press fit but fell straight through the frame when I put it in. The firing pin was about 1/16" too long, and damaged the frame when I test fired the gun. If I hadn't noticed, it could have ended with the firing pin assembly shooting out from the rear of the gun. When I contacted Numrich about this, I got a runaround that basically boiled down to: "Not our fault, contact the manufacturer". They're still selling the very same firing pin, so it seems like they don't give a crap.

no good deed goes unpunished, but I'll try again for the last try, as i bet you can't manufacture you own grip screws, I will sned you a nice period seat gratis.....this may be the last time I be nice ;0

Why dont you get some grip screws from Tom Heller or someone else on the board ?

Terry, be thankful for Howard's offer (above).

The Luger grip screws are rather unusual, cut to a different thread standard called "Whitworth" which is actually British.

I am guessing that James just missed reading your generous offer of free grip screws. I also suspect his intent was to steer Terry away from dubious or unreliable sources such as Numrich.

+1 for Tom Heller. He posts here as Luger Doc and has a lot of parts for Lugers. I would tell him what condition you want and see if he can supply.

well if your refinishing the entire gun, does the grip screw condition really matter that much....thanks Ron, " no risk when dealing"....what the hell is a free pair of original pair from me a risk, James need to stand up and detail his feeling, I giving away a pair or two to up starts here on LF and never got so much grief.....when I finish selling off my collection on say GB, and someone questions why I did not first offer it here in LF first, this type of uncalled grief is why.....

I read a complete misundestanding due to crossed replies. I agree with Ron, Howard. Your offer is more than generous and I don't think the offer was seen before the advice to deal with site members was put out there. If I were Terry, I'd jump all over your offer.

Ok I spent the whole day filing and sanding and buffing and going to the range and she fires PERFECTLY!! The bolt was sticky at its full recoil posistion to the point where it wouldn't chamber the next round unless I'd tap it with my thumb. But not no more! The 3rd time to the range was the charm and I ran a box of 100 thru it with never one single jam, bolt sticking, or anything other then an excellent shooter.

Now just to be 100% sure I didn't screw anything up I took it to a local gunsmith and paid him $75 to go thru it and make sure it was ok. His diagnosis put a s--t eating grin on my face that I can't shake even 6 hours later, he said and I quote "If this is the first gun you've ever worked on you should consider coming to work for me" end quote. The other guys couldn't believe the story and its current condition, which coming from a group of experts I was more then thrilled. Now they all want to see it once I rust blue it.

Terry, It sounds as though you are well on your way to a nice shooter PO8. For future reference, I do have new German made PO8 TD lever springs in stock @$25, NOS original WW2 grip screws @$15 each or new repros @$5 each. LOL, TH

NOW he tells me!
