c/93 Borchardt
 

I live in WY and an elderly lady asked if Icould find a value for her C/93 Borchardt. Since I know nothing about this type of gun but new it had a luger history I found this web board to ask. It is complete wtih a shoulder stock and in good condition. I do not know what the Serial # is but I am trying to gather more info. An uncle brought it to this country with him before 1900. She is looking to sell this gun and needs to know a value. Thank you for your time and help. Wayne/ Olefish

Depending upon the condition it could be worth many thousand. I recommend that she contact one of the bigger auction houses like Christie's, and get a professional opininon. If the comission is not too great let them auction it.

Right noe Bob Adams has one for sale on his site (www.adamsguns.com) for $26,500.00 so it would be worth her while to get a professional involved.

Dear All - I saw another Borchardt on a different site that had 'all its bits and pieces', including three magazines, one of which is the dummy used to hold open the toggle whilst cleaning the piece. It was valued at $28000. This needs some serious looking into by the lady concerned, and I agree that none but a prestigious auction house should get a look in. Perhap Mr Shattuck might like to have a look.

I've seen them for less also, here is one from Simpson, LTD;

MP-3 DWM BORCHARDT, restored to mint condition by Gale Morgan, with exc repro stock, cheekpiece, holster, sling and attaching leather. $15,000.00

Your help may prove to be very valuable to this elderly lady. First thing to do is determine if she also has any other accessories for the Borchardt, i.e. case, extra magazines, holster, cleaning kit (looks like a wooden magazine). These accessories can enhance the value considerably. I purchased a Borchardt years ago but was unable to act quickly enough to get the accessories and they were scrapped and lost forever. Also it is important to find out the serial number and manufacturer. Early Borchardts were made by Loewe of Berlin. This firm eventually became Deutche Munitions und Waffenfabriken (DWM) and the later Borchards will be so marked. You will need this information when dealing with potential buyers or auction houses. Even without the other accessories, a matched Borchardt with matching stock in very good to excellent condition is usually going to go for $15,000 to $18,000. Prices lower than that usually reflect poorer condtion, refinish and/or no stock. A cased Borchardt with accessories is going to command $20,000 and up depending on conditon.
