My friend's father gave him a P-08 Luger which he brought back from WWII. I have only seen a photo and some hand-written notes. It has two clips. One with matching serial number to the gun. His notes contain a number LD 236 and 4667(or Y667). The holster contains the original take down/loading tool. He reports that all serial numbers match. I wish I had more info to add. It appears to be righteous. Is it worth a follow up?

I would follow it up. If you could get pictures and a manufacturer and a serial you could get alot of info on it

The "LD 236" might be a Weimar police unit mark.

I am setting up an appointment to physically see the luger, take measurements, identify numbers and markings and take digital photos. I will post when complete. Thanks again!

Additional information with attached photos: (Sorry for the poor quality of photos. Cameras do not function like finely tuned Lugers at least in my hand). The bore is good but needs a good cleaning. The grip under the trigger guard reads L.D. 235, serial #4667. The holster is Voegel KOLN 1939 with an eagle over WaA 387. The take-down tool is marked with an eagle over 135. One clip with a wooden base is pitted with no marking. The second clip with a plastic bottom is in good shape marked with a P.08, fxo and an eagle over 37. I was not able, at this time, to disassemble and inspect the internal works. Is it worth purchasing and at what value?

Your correct serial number is "4667 U". You have a Weimar era police pistol with the sear safety intact but what appears to be your magazine safety clipped off, which was very common. You don't show the pistol's middle toggle. Is it marked "Mauser" or "DWM"? The Mauser would be worth more. Please confirm.

You have a valuable, correct, collectable Weimar police pistol with its original finish. Photos of the holster and any markings on the magazine bottoms would also help.

Here are some photos of the holster and take down tool. There are no markings on the clip bottoms. Not sure how to check the center toggle markings. Any help would be appreciated.

Take a photo of the top of the pistol just like the one you have, only with the toggle closed so that the marking on the middle toggle is visible.

Unfortunately, there are no markings on the middle toggle.

I would expect the toggle not to be marked, it is in the serial range of what many collectors call a 'sneak', see the FAQ for more on that or a search of the forum.

Does this luger come with a story, can you share it for my next vol ? i am collecting stories for vol IV.

I would be happy to share the story if there is one. From my understanding, the owner's father brought two back and gave one to each son with no bring back documents found. This luger was in a safe these many years. I would be happy to inquire, if there is any other information helpful to your book.

Is there an approximate value associated with this luger?

Go down to the "Unit Marks" section of the site and look for "Police Pistol Unit Mark" I just posted a very similar pistol about 1,000 serials older than yours. Youe will get additional information there.
