Question about an online vendor
I should have asked this yesterday before I did the deal; but, I have purchased a 1916 P.08 holster in very fine condition from a guy by the name of Scotty Benedict, the owner of Pre98 Antiques.
When I spoke to him on the phone, he certainly seemed ok and I feel I have not made an error in doing business with him. I expect the holster will arrive in three or four days. Even though I went ahead the transaction, there is always a bit of lingering doubt. Does anyone have any knowledge of this vendor? His url is: www.pre98.com. Thanks for help... Richard |
Hi Richard, I've bought a number of things from Scotty over the years, and have found him to be an honest fellow. He has listed a few magazine pouches recently that are questionable (to put it kindly), but he's on firmer ground when it comes to holsters. If he says your holster is OK, then it is. Regards, Norm

Scotty Benedict is a good guy. You won't have any trouble with him.

After I was rounding my artillery Scott had a brown duel mag holder. Hes sells every thing on Ebay. Nice drums!

I have purchased a number of holsters from Scotty - and have always been very happy with the holsters and also his service.

Thanks guys.
I am glad to hear from folks who have done business with him and to learn that he is a fine fellow. When I get the holster I will post pics. Oh, did I mention that he threw in an unmarked but Imperial German take down tool. Since it is unmarked, I am not sure how he can pin-point that it is from the Kaiser Reich; but, he says he is sure of its authenticity. Thanks again, Richard |
Richard,
I have two very good studies on Imperial Luger tools. Shoot me a PM with your personal email and I'll send these to you as attachments. |

From their unique to the period shape. |
when he sells holsters on ebay he prices are quite high but that is his business. buyers can decide if they want to pay his prices or not. not is usually the case in my case.

Ben,
Yes, I think I paid way too much for the holster and take down tool combo. But, I wanted this holster because of the condition and the year. I did think carefully about it for a couple of days before I made the purchase. Unfortunately, he has a lot of stuff on his site that I want. I will say this though, his wares do seem to be in exception condition, or at least to my untrained eye they seem to be. Richard |
The better the condition or rarer, the higher the price. Sort of like a bell curve.
Plus one has to remember (1) he is in business to make money, and (2) he has to pay good prices to get good things. |
Charlie,
Yes, you are spot on...gotta pay to play. Especially, to play in style! |
I have made purchases from Scotty, he is a very honest vendor, will spend time talking with you on the phone. Pre 98 is a good place to find that hard to locate item. however, I would tell you to be patient, your item will be delivered. I should mention, if you mailed the payment to the warehouse instead of his residence, it may be a day or so before he gets there to open mail.
This I did. and when I called Scotty, he went to the warehouse and two days later I had my item. Regards, Joe |
Richard:
I too have purchased from Scotty. Bought a DWM Imperial magazine from him that I was very satisfied with. I am sure that it was higher than "gun show prices." But the same vintage/condition magazine would have been more expensive at Simpson Ltd or Collectors Firearms judging by their web site offerings. I would not hesitate in buying from Scotty again. However, now that I have become acquainted with George Anderson through this forum, he is the first place I check when I need an Imperial Luger related item. Ron |

After Ralph died last year I'm in Georges trusted hand. After getting back on my feet George sold me a historical accurate and matching a 1917 DWM artillery, two snail drums, both varieties and lastly a 1911 marked medics Erfurt luger with armband and holster. George definitly possesses a phd in WEIMER a+ Not to mention a good friend. I have nothing bad to say about Scotty. I bought my duel leather holder from him. Hes the sears catalog of Luger accessories! My preference is Uncle George as I've become a friend an the trust! The beauty is that lugers are much easier to dispose of where as friendships last forever!
