OK Guys...its dumb question time.. :(

I need some advice...and sometimes to learn something...you just gotta ask what some folks would think is a "dumb question"....however I have been wearing out "Simpsons" Luger site....Im looking at maybe picking up a 1918 DWM....selling my Interarms.....anyway....I don't understand the description that says....94% Blue.....10% Straw.......now I think I know what Blue is on a pistol....thats pretty universal.....but honestly guys....dont throw rocks.....I am totally clueless what "Straw" means..........so ....the only way to know is to ask ...........I appreciate any and all advice............. Hans Fischer

A lot of info to be found on this here site regarding about anything on lugers if you care to look around.

"Straw" is the yellow goldish color on safeties, td levers, triggers, and ejector springs.

A result of heat treating used through mid 1937.

Yep that sums it up from mIke, what kind of Interarms do you have?

Hans,
Dear sir please forgive me for the question that I am about to ask, NO offense intended. Do you stutter? Your continual use of the ... makes me think of some poor soul who stutters. You are a well respected member here and I do enjoy your posts and comments. Again, no offense intended, I am trying to ask life questions with the life I have left. Best to you, Vince

Stuttering..?

Hi Vince.......Thanks for your note.....and its funny i really had never noticed my habit of putting the periods in my sentences......(there i go again)....nope...somehow...somewhere ....just got in the habit of when I type a note....to separate statements and notices.....its funny in life how we can do something for years and not be aware of it.....until its brought to our attention.......and I have to smile as I type this as Im looking back over my notes at the separations.....but Thanks Vince......I appreciate your good words.....Regards...Hans Fischer

I asked him that some time ago and that was the answer he gave me then...

sheepherder 05-19-2012 11:52 PM

I do it too...Not as many periods...But still the same idea... :)

Ever read Faulkner?
He didn't like punctuation all that much, so he was known to write without, then add a page of commas, periods, etc. at the end of the book.

never read Faulkner, guess I should read at least one :)

DavidJayUden 05-20-2012 01:17 AM

I wouldn't worry about reading his stuff. He's one of those guys that the literary guys fawn over, but he makes my eyes glaze over. I guess I'm not smart enough to recognize a literary giant.

The three periods in a row is called an ellipsis. I use it quite a bit (incorrectly) myself. It is used in writing to indicate an incomplete thought or to lead into or out of and incompleted quote. It is supposed to indicate a slight pause in speech or any other form of text, but it is incorrect to use ellipses solely to indicate a pause in speech. That is how I use it, incorrectly, sometimes when I am posting, to give a sense of conversational reply. I know it is wrong...but I suspect I may resort to it from time to time :).

I always thought this keyboard mark after the period in this sentence indicated a pause in speech. ;

I'm having trouble comprehending all of this punctuation talk......................but then, maybe not.

"Eats, Shoots and Leaves" by Lynne Truss, is an excellent little book on the art of punctuation...and it's fun to read. Regards, Norm

Straw in C&R context.... it's a color of steel at certain temperature range..... what's the range? I forgot.... not as high as fire blue, but high enough to cause surface oxidation..... when steel returns to room temperature, the golden oxidation color tone stays there.

I love dots.

SteveM 05-20-2012 10:25 AM

The small parts on your Interarms should be strawed. What type is the Interarms Luger?

hansfischer007 05-20-2012 10:56 AM

What Have I started.?

Oh My....who would have thought that my putting the dots/periods....in my writing would get so many responses......but i really appreciate it......and couldn't wait until this morning to see what had been added......and for some reason....a scene from the movie....SLING BLADE...came quickly to mind....when "doyle hargraves band" are sitting around in his living room....discussing how they write songs......and the one guy......a very odd looking fellow.....says at the ends of his songs.....he always puts ...dot..dot..dot........and as for me to try and stop putting the ..dots...in my writing......I turned 70 last September ....and the old saying of "teaching an old dog new tricks"......but I an humbled by all the nice responses to my crazy way of writing.....once again....it just proves that the Luger Forum ....and its members.....are the Best on the Internet......if not the whole dang planet........Have a Nice day guys......your Kindness and Friendship is Appreciated......

heck.....i just thought the poster had a 'period' key that was malfunctioning on his keyboard....and he did not want to buy a new one. i had one some years back that showed 4 s characters every time i pressed the key button.

pitsword 05-20-2012 03:02 PM

:thumbsup:Who said we had nothing to talk about on the forums?

lugerholsterrepair 05-20-2012 03:43 PM

Thanks Ron! Ellipsis..I often wondered if there was a name for my malady. I too am an offender..I recognize it but cannot seem to give it up. Not nearly as bad as Hans though.
Some habits are bad..some good. Having ellipsis is a moderate bad habit I guess! I think hitting the period key several strokes gives me just enough time to form my next thought?
