Serial Number Help
I have a frame that I believe is from the world war 1 era. The serial number is 7570 with the small letter h under it. The frame does have the stock luger. Can any one help with the year this fram was manufactured and who the manufacturer was? Thanks for your help

Yes and no
DWM frames could be from several years and also erfurts A mauser would have the Mauser hump |

Ed, Didn't you mean that an Erfurt WOULDN'T have the Mauser hump? |
As always lots of photos will help, but exact date by number alone is probably not possible.

changed, you could have changed it for me :) as sometimes my mind and fingers aren't always in sync |
Hi Mike,
The military style serial numbering (4 numeric digits and a suffix letter) was not unique to a single pistol. The different manufacturers (DWM, Erfurt, Mauser) all numbered Lugers in this fashion. For that reason, it's possible - even likely that more than one Luger frame was made with your serial number and suffix. This has actually lead to some interesting problems when someone's Luger is stolen, and the serial number (without further description) goes into the NCIS computer systems. It's possible to observe very minor variations, interior production markings, and specific characteristics and sometimes figure out who manufactured the frame. Knowing common serial number ranges, it's also often possible to identify when it was manufactured. Without photos or a thorough description it's hard to help. Photos are the fastest and easiest way to do this. Marc |
