1918 DWM Police
Gents,
This thread originally started in the unit marking section (Unit Mark G.K. on 1914 Erfurt...). I had some further questions about the pistol but it was not appropriate to the thread. In order not to overstay my welcome I have moved over here to the novice area since that is precisely what I am. The pistol below is a DWM 1918 that was used for police duty with the Gendarmeriekorps of Hessen (thank you again Don). I know nothing about this group and was wondering if someone could enlighten me on the what, where, and when. There were two mags that are numbered 1 and 2 and are marked Simpson Eagle 6 (thanks Norm). They are apparently Schutzpolizei of Hannover and are so marked. There is also a holster of unknown type or origin. It has no makers marks. The pistol is all matching except for the grips, which do not appear to be marked, and has a broken take down spring. I don’t know exactly what impact is on the value of the gun without the original grips or original mags. If someone could give me a ball park value of this pistol it would be appreciated. http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/5/dsc03617uc.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7338/dsc03615e.jpg http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/1897/dsc03614l.jpg http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/5659/dsc03620r.jpg http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/7007/dsc03626yx.jpg http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/3240/dsc03625m.jpg http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/8540/dsc03627l.jpg http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/8994/dsc03639zw.jpg |
Since Hessen and Handover are two different areas, it is interesting that two mags ended up with this gun. I will have to check and see how far apart they are from each other.
The eagle 6 by Simson (Simpson is a common misspelling) would be replacement mags. the holster looks like an after the war made up piece, designed on the US shoulder holster to my eyes. Value of non-matching mags and a broken take down lever spring is nothing, as non-matched mags are common. I would imagine value of the gun itself with the two non matching mags would be around a $xxxx - depends on if matched inside and such / I pulled a value, since you bought it, and you know what you paid for it... I would be interested in the two magazines via a trade or cash? I have police magazines for the era. Ed |
Thank you Ed. At least that is a starting point. I haven't actually purchased the gun yet but figure the valuation at least above $1000.00. It is not fair of course to demand appraisal on guns unseen or unexamined. I appreciate your opinion and will let you know the status of the mags if purchase is possible.
