What is the number beneath serial number?
On two of my Lugers, both 1939s, one a Mauser Banner Police C, the other a 42, there is the number 8,82 stamped under (meaning below) the serial number on the bottom of the barrel on both guns. This is the only place that the number appears on each pistol.
I can't find any mention of it when I Google it. Does anyone out there know what the significance of this number means??? I have other Lugers, but it only appears on the 1939 models. |
This is the diameter of the bore from land to land, as measured by the factory and stamped on the barrel. You will sometimes see 8.81 or 8.83, but it is usually 8.82

Here is a cut from the blueprints showing the manufacturing acceptance tolerance... (If you want the whole set of blueprints, see the For Sale Forum Stickies!)
