I found these in my Grandpas belongings. I assume the house is where they live but the biplane is a gem. Does anyone know its identity or date? All I know is it is German and someone in my family took the picture. Grandpa Bruning 1889-1978

Great pics!
The airplane is a Imperial German WW1 heavy bomber called a Gotha GV.The Germans used them for bombing missions over England.

If you're into WW-I aviation, I heartily suggest checking out:

The Old Rhinebeck (NY) Aerodrome

I knew Cole Palen when I lived in NY. He was a very colorful, and amazing man!

He doesn't have a Gotha, but does have several from the era, including a tri-wing Fokker that was still flying!

I was wondering up to a Kriegofff each service had their own sidearm. Was there a sidearm the pilots had in case they were shot down or have to defend themself? These seem to be Rear prop!

While in no way expert in this matter I note that virtually all Gotha bombers were of the "pusher" configuration with propellers mounted to the rear...the plane in question has front mounted props. Is it in fact a Gotha?

Every plane I posted came up in a search for the 'Gotha' bomber. Ill do some more research. Do you have any pictures with a 'pusher' configuration

Here is a pic of a Gotha with a "puller" prop. Apparently they made different models. The other bombers the Germans made where the AEG and the Friedrichshafen.Neither of the those planes looks right.
