a few more pictures, any help would be appreciated, note the base plate hasa screw hold

A non-import marked, mismatched K98 in this condition with missing parts would bring around $350-$450 in these parts.
The rear sight looks like it is damaged around the sight notch area? The sling is not original either.

BTW, what is the second stud on the stock behind the disassembly escutcheon?

padredan 04-11-2012 05:29 PM

It is not import marked, second stud where? lol

not sure where this stud would be located, so some where around 400.00 would be correct for this rifle in it's condition?

That metal stud behind the disassembly disk on your second to last photo. That is not original to the rifle and I was trying to figure out why it was placed there on the butt of the stock.

I think $400 is fair, nothing more.

i see it, he has an offer close to that, i wil inform him that 400.00 is a fair price, thanks

padredan,

The thing that caught my eye was the screw on the magazine floor plate (formal name is magazine follower). You should take a close look at this area for any damage - looks like someone added a screw to keep the floor plate in place.

I have a copy of Backbone of the Wehrmacht by Richard Law if you need me to provide any general details about the byf (Mauser / Oberndorf) rifles made in 1943.

yes i pointed that out, some bubba gunsmith used a screw to hold the magazine follower in place, he just wanted me to show it onhere and a get a fair market value on it, thanks for the help to all.

There is an excellent forum devoted to Surplus Military Rifles at -

http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/index.php

I frequent the Enfield sub-forum there, but the German sub-forum gets a lot of posts as well...
