Looking for an approximate value

Hello All,

What I'm guessing this is going to be classed as a shooter. All external serial numbers match, but I have not disassembled it to see if they all do... so assume they don’t for now. Also I'm interested to see if any of the marks mean anything. Condition is ok. Lots of wear. Original grips, but also worn. Magazine seems to be a repro but says made in Germany. Bore is also ok.
Thanks!
Keith

HI Keith, and welcome to the forum.

From what I can see, the finish on your Luger looks original.

It's a Mauser manufactured Luger made in 1940. It was made for the German military, and inspected by their personnel.

Finish condition may not be the best, but if it's over 80% coverage and without major damage it could be considered collectable.

The magazine is after market.

What questions do you have about it?

Marc

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the reply. It doesnt have any damage. I suppose the only other question is about what it would be worth. I'll probably be selling or trading this one. I actually have 9 lugers and a couple other german pistols.... this is the runt of the litter so to speak.

Thanks again!
Keith

Seems to me that a $1000 is a fair figure. It is a good looking old warhorse, not particularly rare or prestine, but a good example. If I were a new guy and looking for a shooter, I'd way rather spend a grand on this than $800 on a molested shooter. This gun is collectable and should retain its value.
Clean it up, find a correct mag, maybe have Hugh breath on the grips, and it will look very nice.
My $.02.

Is that a double 655 mark?

That's a big thing to know before you arrive at any price conclusion. It may just be the photo's but your description says Lots of wear and I would want to know what the bore looks like before I would assign a price.
IMO $1000 could be reasonable ... maybe not too..more needs to be known.
Hugh could do some magic on the grips no doubt..IF they are matching? $65?
The repro mag is good for a shooter but one would want a proper period mag. $125-150
It's still a tough economy.

Selling should list above book value, because it's not easy to find a good item at book value in "buy mode". If sold at book value, with that little $$, can buy what?? Say, finally find another piece with that money,,,,, then why not keep this one initially... just an opinion.

I thank everyone for their input. Jerry, I totally understand your comments and agree with them 100%! I will be disasembling it for futher inspection for the numbers. The piece has wear there is no doubt but clean otherwise.
