Strangest Luger I have ever owned

This is a Luger that has been around.

Started life as an Imperial Erfurt.

Was rejected and repaired, (crown RC)

Had date ground off in 1920.

Somehow got a Swiss shield on the chamber.

Has a Swiss target long barrel.

And has those little sunbursts on the upper and lower as well.

Any ideas?

Re: Strange

Oh I know, Tom, that's why this gun is such a mystery.

It also has *2* sets of regimental marks on the gripstrap, one slightly buffed out and another installed overtop of it.

This gun has more marks than I have ever seen on one gun before, all very legit looking.

I surmise a Swiss target barrel was installed about the time it got the Swiss shield on it. There is also a "VP" mark next to the cross under the barrel, conjoined like the "BP" Berner Probe would be, but I can't think of any city in Switzerland that starts with a "V". Plus I thought the Swiss built their own Lugers, instead of recycling old Imperial ones.

All the marks seem legit enough, and the poor old beastie is fairly high mileage.

How it got from Switzerland to E Germany is anybody's guess really. And no refinish or arsenal rebuilds apparently either.

PS:

Many thanks to JR for making the pics show up

How DO you do that anyway?

Your Pics showing up with a message post...

Hi Hannah,

You can have a single pic show up with your post by just placing the URL address for the pic in the block located in the 'Post Response' rectangle that is labeled:

Optional Image URL:

This is located just above the Password: prompt in the same rectangle.

Just the actual address is all you need to input. So here is a repeat of your first photo attached to this post as an example. If you still have trouble including a photo after my explanation, drop me an email and I will try to be more helpful.

BTW, since you have now proven that you can take excellent photographs, how about submitting a new one of yourself that is a little closer in focus for the Lugerforum Rogues Gallery?

best regards, John Sabato

Thanks John!

Actually, I merely tossed the gun into the scanner, that is not a photo.

I am too big to fit into the scanner, unfortunately.

Put your faced about a foot away and you can scan the whole face in.

Actually, Hannah...

if you had just left the image tags ([img].....[/img]) off, your entries would have looked like they appear below, and would have worked as you intended.

Hannah & Dok, All three(or more) can appear in the same post like this

Open this post in a new window and Look at the source code for this page in your browser to see what syntax I used...

Many thanks folks

Thanks for all the help, guys.

I will remember this next time I post a pic here.

Now, any ideas on how a Swiss rework got to E Germany?
