Tryin to figure out what I've got..

I know it's a 7.65, and that it has a DMW marking on the top, also that it's been refinished. (bummer)

Other than that.. I need some help.

Here it is;

Anyone?

is the chamber stamped? top of the reciever. the germany indicates is was for export. They really did a job of buffing it before blueing, but you see that alot sometimes.

It's one of the best quality Lugers. During WWI, DWM expanded dramatically, at peak time, they could make 700+ Lugers per day! After the war, they had to shrink, only their best workers could keep their jobs. This Luger was made by those who survived in that era. So it's 1920s... exact year, Luger expert probably knows. I don't know. 1922, 23?

Where specifically would I look? I don't see any other markings on this whatsoever...

It has some funky mark that you can see on this pic.... crappy pic, but it is some kind of stamp;

The breech block was proofed with a crown over "N", which indicates that it was "Nitro" proofed for commercial sale.

There wasn't a date on top of these commercial Luger receivers.

If I'm reading it correctly, your Luger is serial number 8682f. I don't have my reference here, but that would put it somewhere in the early 1920s. My commercial with a "m" suffix was from 1923. Without references, I'd guess 1922.

It is definitely 8682, I do not see any "F". The barrel also sports an 8682 marking... it has some other marking underneath it that I cannot figure out..

Has it been refinished, or did these guns come looking this way??

Edit; Are you referring to the mark below "germany"??? That does look like a cursive "F"...

Unfortunately, reblued.

mjn 03-11-2012 10:10 PM

Any idea what it would be worth retail?

Luger collectors are chasing WWII, military, etc. DWM 1920 commercial guns are not hot at all. Even commercial vs commercial, original DWM 1920 in nice shape could go lower than postwar Interarms :crying: Something is seriously wrong, but that's the market.

Reblued, definitely 3-digit price tag. But I don't know exact numbers. $400?

DavidJayUden 03-11-2012 10:34 PM

I'd think that you can do in the $600 range for it. After all it does have a lot of lipstick on it...You can always consign it to a shop with a lot of floor traffic, and this spiffed up one might catch someone's eye.
It's not a bad looking gun at all, unless you are looking thru collecter's eyes.

The "f" is the cursive letter under the word "Germany" under the numeric part of your serial number.

Take a look at the technical reference section of this site, and look at the cursive letters listed.

I agree that $600 is about right for this as a retail price. Perhaps $500 to a collector that wanted a .30 Luger shooter.

nice looking pistol, like it has been stated , collectors would not want it. And commercial reblued , would be kinda what the market would bare. If it's being sold where maybe there are few lugers at all maybe a higher price.

MFC 03-11-2012 11:23 PM

With an 'f' suffix, it is a WWI military that was reworked and sold on the commercial market. Alphabet commercials started with the 'i' suffix.

Is there a proof mark on the left receiver? or numbers? What is stamped underneath the barrel?

I don't see any other proof marks on the receiver. There is the # 82 on several parts, but nothing else that I can see.
The bottom of the barrel has the same #8682 as is on the reciever.
