Small Holster..????....what is it..???
 

Im an avid "Collector".....anything German....you name it...and have a nice collection of WW1 Postcards.....just got a dozen new ones in the other day ....and they show some interesting holsters....heres one of a WW1 German Officer..with one of the smallest holsters Ive ever seen in a photo....only thing I can guess is that it might be for a .25 Caliber Mauser maybe.....also check out the neat Sword......anyone have an idea what this holster might be....let me know........I hope to post some more photos later this week......Hans Fischer

Nice picture. Hard to tell on the holster. There were several 25 cal. available. The sword looks more dangerous. Thanks for sharing. Bill

A small .25 auto is the best guess. However...
I would consider also the option of a small Bulldog type revolver.
Although not as popular as semiautos, a few were purchased and carried by some more flamboiyant officer.

Going thru my Postcards......Found another one that looks like a Large Revolver Holster....and another showing 3 Soldiers standing facing the Camera....all wearing Luger Holsters on their left side....what is so interesting is the postmark on the back....from a Machine Gun Company....bear with me...hope to post some more photos soon.....Danke.....Hans Fischer

Interesting... I have a similar holster that's supposedly for a Steyr 1908 pistol, but the wear clearly shows that it has been used for a revolver. The flap is obviously different, but it still seems to be very similar in size and style. BTW, I put my Galand revolver in the holster, and found that it was a perfect fit. Even the wear pattern matched the contours of the revolver. :thumbup:

The holster in the link is different and not the same as in the picture, but the two holsters have some similiarities and some differences. The flap on the one in the picture looks more straighter than the one in the link though the body contour looks similar. The angle the photo was taken could be distorting the holster, plus the photo as taken was not focaled on it. I'm leaning towards a small .25 auto but on the same token it very well could be a revolver in there. For me the Jury will be out on this one.

The way the holster bulges in the middle would indicate a small revolver to me as well.

Tini calibers were still considered adequate for self defense back then.

Hans, I'd go along with the revolver camp. There doesn't appear to be much room for a trigger guard, so perhaps one of the folding trigger, Velo-dog type. TH
