P08 1941/42 Luger
 

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and hope that someone can help me on a luger I am looking to purchase. I am most interested in authenticity and have been offered the following luger:

P08 1941/42 all matching parts
black widow in 98% condition
2 mags, not matching
original "officer holster"
9 mm
all parts stamped

The asking price is $2250.00

Any thoughts on whether this is a good deal or if I should look elsewhere?

Too high.

That assemblage, (supposing the holster is not rare) should bring in the $1,500-$1,800 ballpark.

Doug's estimate also assumes that everything is correct. Original finish; not messed with.

That means original WW-II holster, not a reproduction. It also means original bakelite grips not a reproduction. I can't imagine what "all parts stamped" means.

It's hard to even guess these things without a good look at it, so pictures would be needed to be of much help. Even with those, it can be hard to estimate finish.

Thank you. I think it's high on the price too and it's definitely higher than I wanted to spend. I just was trying to say that the numbers all matched. Sorry I'm a newbie at this, this would be my first luger!

So, you might want to jump on this, or you might want to read and buy some books to know more about lugers :).

41/42's are hard to find and fetch much higher prices than more common variations. IMO If everything is correct, the price is low.

Fair price for a 41/42. As Mike said they are not common. David

I don't want to confuse things but, there is no such thing as a Luger marked with 1941 on the chamber and 42 on the toggle link. Maybe I am being overly pedantic.

But as noted there might be a 41 on the chamber and 42 on the toggle, a rather rare gun. Or 41 on the chamber and byf on the toggle, a more common gun.

Given the rather loose descriptions, provided I am sure by the seller, e.g. Black Widow and "officer's holster", I just want to make sure the gun is truly righteous.

If it's the first Luger, and the plan is to get one or two Lugers, it does not make sense to chase a scarce 42 factory code Luger. That's for dedicated collectors who care those minor difference. For regular collector (also collect other guns, but need one or two Lugers), a common byf 41 or 42 will be a perfect choice, as long as it's all original and all matching.

And, what if becoming a dedicated Luger collector in future.... no problem, byf code becomes a must in that scenario. Not wasted.

IMO. If all matched inside and out decent original finish I would pay that and know I got a deal.
