A question of sanity-1918 DWM
 

Greetings!

I have been in possession of this weapon for about two years after my father passed it along to me. He purchased the pistol right before Vietnam and never put a round through it. I, however, have been enjoying putting rounds through it (~250)!

This is my first pistol and I have enjoyed it but I would prefer to have a newer pistol for home defense or to concealed carry. Not having the sensibility of a collector I would choose to have only one weapon in the house.

So I am going to sell this one presently. I was thinking in the 5-600 dollar range just to cover the cost of the replacement pistol. I would love to see it go to a home where it would be appreciated as a fun shooter.

**Edit** While it does have the original grips on it, they are loose and will need to be replaced. It will also come with two magazines- the original marked 46 and an aftermarket one.

I've attached some pictures- is my asking price acceptable? And just for fun if you know what the marks mean could you please fill me in?

As a mismatched shooter your gun is at the low end of its value at $600, in my opinion. Add another $50 or so and it will still be snapped up.

There have been several peeps on this site looking for shooters you should have no problem selling it here.

im new here and know nothing about lugers or guns really, . looks like a dwm 1918 on the right side with those 3 little cartouches and the date on receiver. looks like a replacement barrel cuz the numbers dont match.
dont know why the sideplate is x'd out , mebbe rebuilt ? again Im stabbing in teh dark but its just for fun right :). Double dates are marked 1920 to prove they are government property. I need to take a nap now my brain hurts.:P
I wonder why the numbers arent square with each other on the 1920 you would think for the energy you were putting into it you could at least eyeball them a little square'r.

Please show a shot of the serial numbers and letter suffix on the front of the frame. The barrel is a mismatch as well..

I don't know your age but you get a nice collectable from your father and you sell it you'll never get it back.
for the 600 dollars you get for it you may find in yourself wishing you should have kept it. My dad bought me a used RG .22 when I turned 14. 36 years later I still take of out and remember shooting in the desert with him.
personally I'd just save up and buy a new plastic gun and hang onto your piece of family history. Jim

I couldn't agree more. My Dad gave me a shotgun when I was 14 years old. Now 62 years later I still have it. It's not very valuable money wise but priceless to me. And will never be sold in my lifetime. I think it takes a few years for us to realize how important family items are. In many cases by then it's to late. Bill

Thank you all for your input. The pistol sold last week to a member of the forum. My wife and I went shopping for a new firearm and are purchasing a Glock 19 tomorrow afternoon.

Forget the Glocks and invest in a nice Ed Brown .45 caliber 1911 pistol. You won't be sorry.

Or a Les Baer if you want the same quality at about half the price....

Glocks have their place, i have several of them. they will work with very little maintence, shoot an aceptable group and holds lots of ammo other than that they are utilty. It's the gun under the truck seat or in your boat, or carry it in bad weather, a glock is a glock, you do not get attached to them. they are basic. one by my bed , with a a tactical light and red lazer, trust it sure ,in love with it and it's design, naaa. It is what it is, a glock. rather sure there is no glock collectors group, if there is i am not a member.

Or as we used to say..."A Glock is slightly better than a Rock", but as Dan says, they are a very good tool for a specific job.

I wouldnt have gone out and buy a glock. I had a old honda three wheeler and a guy wanted it more than the pistol so we traded. Fun to shoot, almost embarassed to say what I had into the three wheeler. jim

dang 2-4 k for an ed brown 1911 or a nice luger. i would buy a police trade 92 f and a luger:roflmao: but thats jussst me

I changed quite a lot over years. My first pistol was a 92FS, I loved its white finish. My second pistol was a Glock 26, I loved its size and its plastic frame. Gradually, I lost interest in any plastic gun, and much later, lost interest in any white gun.

I cant remember my first pistol they all kind of blend together although I think it was a 40 cal beretta 96 or a 25 acp with pearl(synthetic) grips wich is still around here somewhere. or was it a llama .45?
