A few years ago i had the opertunity to buy this luger and holster , a 1939 42 mauser, and i found the pictures of it. Thought i might share them with you, and see what i a deal i may have missed, i offerd 750.00 for it at the time, it sold for a 1000.00, it allso had a loading tool , all the numbers were matching but bore was fair. Did i mess up bad? At the time i really had no knowledge of lugers or their values and when i made the offer it was the most he had at the time.

As that old poem goes: "Of all sad words of tongue or pen, saddest are these, it might have been". Regards, Norm

Depends on how many years ago. The luger looks pretty rough and the holster good to fair.

I don't think you lost out. Might go for a thousand today for a shooter.
That's a great example of how a holster can look really great in one photo and like crap in another.

pictures were taken july 30 2010 , so that time or a week or so later i made the offer, i put the finish at 60 to 70 percent and a fair bore , i thought at the time i made a good offer. the two i recently bought are much better condition.

thanks again, does it look to be worth 1000.00 a year or so ago?

wlyon 02-14-2012 08:10 AM

Not to me. Bill

Norme 02-14-2012 08:10 AM

Good morning Padre. Despite the condition issues, this gun and holster look all original to me, and that matching number mag is a big plus. I would happily have paid $1,000.00 for them a year ago (or today). Regards, Norm

I agree with both sides... :D

If you wanted a collectible 'rig' and were just starting a collection, then this 'rig' at $1000 would have been a good start...You could trade up later...

But if all you were interested in was the pistol itself and you just throw the 'other stuff' in a drawer, then the $750 was a good price...

It all depends on what you want...

My main problem with luger in this condition is resale value. It will always be a poor condition luger. They are all getting to expensive for me. I feel before you purchase a luger such as this save your money and try and buy a better one. Bill

padredan 02-14-2012 08:45 AM

well like i said i did not get it for 750.00 he got a buyer for 1000.00, actualy the mag was not a match, looking back At it, i do not think i would have paid anymore than the 750.00 i offered for it, i just wanted to get the opinion of the forum, What it did do was get me to looking around at lugers and putting some money aside for when i did find one or two, which i did, thanks again.

[What i did find and buy, are these two a 1929 dwm police 9mm and a 1918 double stamp 9mm, in much better condition and much nicer bores, at 1000.00 ea. i feel like they were both a better deal than the 1939 mauser .

Curly1 02-14-2012 10:17 AM

I think you made the right choices.

padredan 02-14-2012 11:35 AM
