found a 1918 Erfurt 7.65 serial number 25
 

i found this interesting looking 1918 Erfurt in 9mm cal , serial number 25, aftermarket mag, numbers matching, note the barrel has a round brazed spot or dot on it, the reciever is a good bit shorter than the frame, condtion looks to be above average, bore is ok, not preisteen, but ok, barrel is different not tapered and odd front sight.anybody know much about this one? the brass spot or filled hole , and the shorter reciever? or a value? thanks opps the third picture is not of the erfurt, another luger i was looking at, the erfurt is s/n 25 ty

Somebody really did a number on a nice Erfurt!! The oddest thing is I do not see the necessity of it all, unless this is an attempt to make serviceable again a pistol with a cracked front upper receiver, (chamber area). Still, an upper receiver could have been welded and brought back into use.
The bore still appears to be 9mm, but have you looked at the chamber?

The brass "dot" also makes me nervous. If this is a brass plug, which goes all the way through the barrel wall, perhaps in an attempt to "rewat" a "dewated" pistol, it is a very dangerous solution. I would not attempt to fire this hatchet job at all, even after a gunsmith's inspection.
I'm baffled at what was meant to be accomplished here..

very true, i used a bore light and i did not see where it was drilled through and why is the reciever shorter? i am assuming serial number 25 and matching numbers it is all original. i do think his asking price of 1150.00 is a bit steep/lol.

If the "dot"went all the way through to the chamber/bore there is an outside possibility that it was an ammunition pressure test gun that has the hole brazed shut. I am at a loss to explain the configuration of the gun. It also looks like the front sight barrel band has been added to the oddly configured barrel. A very strange piece priced about $650 too high for a curiosity/parts gun. (I like that left grip though :))

The front sight IS a separate machining, not unlike an M1 Carbine.

thanks what i am thinking, it's a 500.00 luger and way too dangerous to shoot. any idea why the reciever is shorter and the barrel is steped and not tapered? the left grip looks like it hasa badge or sheild embedded in it?

Dan, Looks like you have a picture of s/n 7250w mixed in... 3rd in your series above...

The short receiver plus the plugged hole (if that's what it is) would point to a pressure test device that could be used for observing chamber pressure during firing and ejection. The hole appears set back in the special barrel so that it's over the chamber / ogive transition area at the entry to the rifling.

mark, thanks, it more or less a erfurt science project,lol. if i may ask why is it serial number 25? does it have any collector value at all? it is sure not a shooter.

I seriously doubt that the Erfurt Arsenel had anything to do with this conversion. I would guess that some "grage-mechanic" decided to cut back the receiver to match the threads on the cut down rifle barrel that he had available. TH

that makes sense, looks like who ever went to alot of trouble to machine and make it all fit, had no idea you could turn a rifle barrel into a 9mm pistol barrel, thanks

That is beyond bizarre...Cut back the receiver to the locking lug??? The barrel itself looks nicely machined/turned...Can't see much of the front sight blade to tell if it is Luger or other...

OK...Here's my WAG...It was a DeWat, with a welded receiver/barrel...And someone cut out the welded section and fitted some kind of barrel...Can't be a rifle; not if it is 9mm...Might be a SMG barrel...Maybe...Or might be made from scratch...

I'd like to hear the story... :D

It's strangely beautiful. I must say, padredan, where do you keep running into these interesting pistols? I've been rather captivated by all the posts and photos to date!

it's more like they keep running into me/lol. i have been an avid gun collector for years and former armor. when i find guns of interest i will go and check them out, sometimes buy them. My connection to alot of the older veterans lead me to some intresting finds.

alot of intersting thoughts on this one, but the s/n does match.
