Hi Wolfgang, Neither the holster nor pouch are correct for a 1917 Artillery. They are either Persian or copies, we need better photos, front and back, to tell which. Regards, Norm

The holster is a crude Pakistani copy, IMHO. The poor stitching and poorly executed tool pouch are dead give-aways. The cover on the cleaning rod pouch is also incorrect. I would say the same for the magazine pouch.

If you have this holster on hand, smell it for a chemical odor, which they use to "antique" these fakes.

Hi Wolfgang, I lean towards Persian. While I don't have any first hand experience with Persian rigs, I do know that the folded over ears on the lid of the cleaning rod pouch, are a distinctive feature. As you probably know, the German makers used separate discs that were sewn on. Also, Persian rigs used local leather and the quality of workmanship did not equal that of German craftsmen. Can we see close up photos of the markings and numbers, if any, on the stock? Regards, Norm

The folded over ears on the cleaning rod sleeve are definitely Pakistani or Indian made copy from the 1960s or 1970s to compliment the Persians that were imported. All of the real leather made for the Persian contract guns of the 1930s was German made. The pouch, straps, etc are also Paki reproductions. Better close-up photos of the stock would help us pass judgement there.

Hi George, My source is Görtz/Sturgess' "Pistole Parabellum", pages 1311 and 1312. I quote:
"The Persian Army manufactured it's own holsters for both the P08s and LP08s supplied by Mauser in 1935.... The LP08 holster is readily distinguished from the German WW1 patterns by their total lack of marking, the quality of the leather and the stitching, the folded and sewn "ears" on the cleaning rod flap, and the square tip to the magazine pouch closure strap".
Best regards, Norm

This abomination is as fake as John kerry's purple hearts. There is nothing redeeming about it...It is light years away from a 1917 Imperial Artillery.
Pure junk and I would stay away from it. Even if the stock is good ...it would be like a weiner with a coating of dog doo..that don't make it a corndog.

gentleman, thank you

thx to all, will see if i can get pictures from the stock, but nevertheless will hold my fingers away from the rig...
i think, with 3500 euros too expensive for an lp08 with reproaccesories

Can anyone tell me if this is a German Holster it came with my 1917 Art #9220
Is it worth restoring?

Chromeed:
I'm not seeing a problem with the holster, but the stock and boot look suspect.

The Stock and boot are from an aftermarket (made in India) Holster, stock, Double Magazine pouch and shoulder strap I paid $125.00 for at Atlanta Cutlery.
With a little bit of machining on the stock iron I got the stock to fit my 1917 Artillery just right. But it is probably not legal.

DavidJayUden 02-10-2012 08:42 PM

So long as it is (supposedly) an artillery stock on an artillery Luger, I don't think you'll have any problems with the Federales.
