Black Widow
We're all Black Widow Lugers built in 41/42? Also, we're the exclusive for the German military?

Psssssstt.......
Before you get blasted for uttering the "BW" term, you might want to search a bit on its origin. Lots of info on it here, all over the Forum. |
Hi Mike, Black bakelite grips started appearing on Mauser manufactured Lugers, both for the Army and Police, in mid 1941 and continued to the end of Luger production in 1942. The last 10,000 produced, all with bakelite grips, went to Portugal. Regards, Norm

It is my understanding that the name "Black Widow" was started by Ralph Shattuck. As been stated the black plastic grips and mag knobs were introduced in 1941. The black plastic grips and knobs were used with toggle marking "42" and "byf."
When wooden griped "byf" Lugers are refered to as "Black Widows" that demonstrates the level of collecting knowledge that individual has. That's my 2 cents. Dick |
Thanks for all the responses, I understand that Black Widow is not "official" or have German origin. Thanks for the insight!
