War Horse movie
I just sat thru the new Speilberg flic entitled War Horse, and while no historian, the background and props looked very good. A bit of Artillery Luger action, some Maxim's and a ton of Mauser rifles. I'll be eager to hear other members opinions, but this one has the most lengthy and accurate WW1 scenes that I recall.

It was excellent and I felt very accurate. One of the few movies where I have seen the german unit coverings on their helmets.

Excellent MOVIE and excellent and historical props were used. I didn't see a single anachronism... A perfect example of Spielberg's talent...
The barbed wire scene was particularly disturbing... but must have been digitally created. Even a veteran stunt horse would have been hurt in some of scenes in this movie... I swear it won't be long before live actors are completely obsolete... You simple can't tell anymore what is digitally created and what is reality... Well Done! |
Very well done and a very sad movie. I hate it when animals have to suffer (even though none of the actor animals did I'm sure). The howitzer scene was pretty cool though. Boom!
I agree on the barbed wire scene. Sort of reminded me of that horse going crazy in the movie "The Big Red One". Highly accurate to say the least. Even the German helmets had the unit numbers on them. Didn't the movie "All Quiet on the Western Front" (the 1979 film) have the spiked helmet coverings?? That film was pretty accurate too it seemed, along with "The Blue Max". I'm really wanting maybe a remake of either "The Blue Max" or "All Quiet on the Western Front". Or, maybe they could create a new WWI movie with great and new special affects. This one was good, but more animal centered. Oh, I forgot, they did do a good WWI movie, "Flyboys". I forgot all about that one! How much is 30 Guinea's? |
Just checked, but it sounds like a new movie will be released on April 10th (in Germany) about the Red Barron. Here's a pic of the actor that's to play Richthofen:

In a published interview with Spielberg he said there were only 9 and one half minutes of war footage in War Horse.
|
Interesting. While watching the movie you would think it's more. Does that 9 minutes actaully count just for the shooting or actual battlefield scenes? 'Cause the neat pulling of the howitzer scene counts to me as a "battle scene".
|
I can't say as I have not seen the movie..my info came from an interview with the Director I read in the PARADE magazine in last Sunday's newspaper?
He indicated he was not a big fan of war..what man in his right mind would be? so he didn't want to put much of it in War Horse. |
That 9.5 minutes had to just be limited to actual shooting scenes. All very shadowy and dark anyway.
But the magic of Warhorse is the troop scenes when they are not actually shooting, just being soldiers. A lot of that footage that "makes" the movie. Regardless of whether or not you like Speilberg or his politcs, this one is worth watching. dju |

My first trip to a movie theatre since my stroke ten years ago. Now handicapped friendly. Well it was worth the wait. I did notice the German who signaled the awesome cavalry charge did so will an artillery luger. The heavy bass system will shake your intestines. The most realistic adventure that has to been seen in an appropriate theatre setting. Movies have really leap and bound since my last ten years ago. So unfortunatly did the price of admission. A not only a must see but a must see again

Go during the day and the price tag is a little less. With that and sneak in some goodies instead of the concession stand and it'll be more like the price tag you remember.

The official trailer has been relased on 'YouTube' I don't know how to attach it. Take a look, its spectacular and free! Can anyone attach the trailer!
|
Probably not a Youtube trailer as I have no idea how to save it.
|
You can play the Official Trailer on YouTube, Its there, just look it up! It can't be easier. tk
|
Would be nice, but probably not. For this movie, there's just not enough Lugers in it to spark much I'd think.
|
If you are going to see this movie to count lugers we are missing the point!!!!!
|
No, just like to see 'em. Just neat to see this stuff in the movies.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Er--DLaG7SM You can check a few air combat scenes on youtube - they are breathtaking (for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kHPm...eature=related ). However, the plot contains several historical mistakes. All the best, Douglas |
Douglas your my hero!!
