Wow!!! Enough for a "NEW" Luger!

I was browsing my library this evening, and came across one of my German relative's old books. When I opened it, this dropped out!

Printed in Berlin February 7, 1908, this Imperial ReichsBankNote for 100 Marks was worth about $25 at the time in US Currency.

If I'm not mistaken, that's about enough to buy a brand new Luger...

Oh well, if that "Way Back Machine" ever gets working, I've got the right cash!

Why is it marked 'specimen'???

I marked it "Specimen" digitally because of some country counterfeiting laws... It is illegal to post high resolution images of even obsolete currency in some geographies... The actual bill doesn't have this...

So...You're afraid the Imperial Police will come after you??? I think you could probably outrun even the youngest of them... :D

My inflation calculator only goes back to 1913...but in that year, $25 would have been equal to $571.29 today...I'm not sure what that proves...

Inflation is an interesting topic. I bought a HD TV in 2005 which cost me $3200. Nowadays, similar TV is less than $1000 in store. Dollar value increased four times in 7 years!!

Just kidding. The following page contains some comparison data.

Rich,

I'm not really afraid of the Imperial German Police, just want to accommodate the rules as I understand them...

I have an acquaintance (J. S. G. Boggs) who is an extraordinary graphics artist. His "art" is to hand draw currency, and then exchange it for goods of equivalent value. Since they are hand signed, each is considered a work of art in the USA. In other countries, he's a counterfeiter. I learned to be conservative about depicting currency through him...

I actually met JSG at one of Masaad Ayoob's LFI classes many years ago...

Here's one of JSG's creations:

Just neat.
It will display nicely with a Imperial Luger.
