safety first

Hi guys...

So, other than usual gun/pistol safety, are there any special concerns with the use/firing of the WWII era Luger?

Thanks!

Michael

If the gun is new to you, have it checked by a competent gunsmith before shooting it. Use Winchester White Box ammo, which seems to give the best results for most Lugers. Don't carry it around with a round in the chamber, as the whole safety-sear-trigger mechanism is a bit Rube Goldberg-ish and not 100% trustworthy. Make sure the magazines are in good condition, as any damage to the lips or to the magazine catch ledge will cause stovepipes and jams.

I'm concerned by the nature of your question. What is your level of experience with firearms?
There are some instructional videos on YouTube that may help familiarize you with the mechanations of the Luger, some better than others.
Also recall that the Luger can fire from a loaded top end even though the pistol is disassembled.
Make certain that the toggle closes completely before firing. Clean and lightly lube the gun first.
To me it is all just common sense, but if you are unsure of anything please ask!

Hi David,

Thank you for the concern....I have a pretty fair amount of experience with firearms. However, I have no experience at all with the Luger. I was just wondering if there was a particular precaution with this gun.

Best,

Michael

If you remove the left grip be very careful that you do not chip a piece of the grip off that is under the safety if it hasn't been chipped already.

Gary....that's the 'million dollar' chip, no?

Yes, it devalues collector guns somewhat and looks really ugly to boot!
