LugerForum plug in "American Rifleman"

On page 40 of the Jan 2012 American Rifleman, in the Technical Questions & Answers section, there is a half-page writeup entitled "A 7"-Barreled Luger?"...

Also shows a pic of the 7" bbl Luger, and the tech writer, David R Chicoine, answers whether it is a prototype or an aftermarket addition.

He ends the writeup with a recommendation to "spend some time at www.lugerforum.com"...

I don't know this author, but from the form of his answer, I'd guess he is a member here...

Thanks for the referral, David!

That is absolutely wonderful!!!

I saw that when I read the magazine today... It's nice to have friends in NRA places.

I wonder if this reference came about after the museum curator error and constructive discussion last year...

In any case, I think this is a good thing.

It brings up an interesting question...Is this forum now considered more knowledgeable about Lugers than Jan Still's forum??? :D

Or did this forum just pop up in Google before Jan's??? :p

I'd say it's a moot point....not that I'm keeping score, but it seems to me about 80% of folks here belong to both boards!

I doubt if one is considered any better than the other. For the most part the same people respond to both. Jan's is more diverse as far as other military firearms. Personally I only look at the luger portion. But I am sure there is lots of others interested in other firearms. I was at one time but the lugeritis got me. Good to see some publicity. The more people we get the more knowledge available. Bill

Bill, if I was to have a complaint about Jan's forum (I don't, but I'll play devil's advocate) it would be that Jan has *too many* Luger sub-forums...

It literally takes a Luger expert just to navigate to the correct sub-forum to find the information (or discourse) that you are interested in...Novices who don't know jack spit (like me) have no idea which sub-forum to post a question in because I don't know what model/type/year it is I have...

I find the sub-forums here more user-friendly and easier to navigate & understand... :)

I am a member over on Jan's forum, just as he is a long standing member here... the two forums compliment each other, and are joined at the hip over our subject matter.

As mentioned previously, virtually all of the active membership here are also members there... We even share some of our Moderator resources... volunteers who help manage both forums. Each forum has its own merits and disadvantages. I heartily endorse membership at both pools of knowledge.

I logged on to view your posts and the things I have read and learned is amazing. I bought my Luger in the late 70's from a Belgian that survived WWII. He had as I was told "several" probably in better condition than the one he parted with but none the less is a cherished piece to me. My mother was a nurse in the German army and helped my father survive Dachau and here I am.

MPGunther... Welcome to the Lugerforum! My father brought home a 1937 S/42 mismatched Luger with very little finish on it... it is worth more to me than any other collectible... Cherished is a great word to use. I will pass it on to a grandchild in his bloodline when my times comes... it is a part of our family history now.
