Picked up this 1910 DWM that is unit marked to a Ulanen cavalry unit. All the numbers, including the grips are matching. It has a correct, but mismatched mag. The hold open was added and the right frame is stamped. It came in a brown 1911 dated holster. The bluing and very good and the bore is in excellent condition. No serial number on the left frame (correct), only on the front of frame under the barrel and also the full number on the barrel.

Grip unit mark: 5.U.5.8.

Nice cavalry marked P08.

Hi Joe, Congrats on a fine unit marked 1910. George will probably know for sure, but I think 1910 was the year when most of the cavalry regiments got their Lugers. I own 8921c, marked to a Dragoon regiment. Regards, Norm

Hi Joe,
thanks for sharing!
May I see some good photos of the holster, please? Is it unit marked?
The photo shoes my grandfather as a member of the 2. Eskadron of the Ulanen 5 in 1910.

Joe[
Outstanding unit marked Luger. I have two close cousins to your 1910 DWM, sn 9430c, marked 5.U.5.8. They are 1910 DWM, sn 9411c , marked 5.U.4.13 and 1910 DWM, sn 9672c, marked 5.U.3.10. The serial numbers corrolate very well with the unit markings. A large portion of the 1910 DWM Lugers were issued to cavalry units. Unit marked Imperial Lugers are each a collectors prize. (see page 42-43 and 288-289 Central Powers Pistols)

You must be very proud of your grandfather, 5.U.2 squadron
Thanks for posting

klaus & alanint

Great family picture.

I sent out the 1911 Luger holster to Jerry Burney to reinstall the buckle closure strap. Too bad, but there are no unit mark stamps on this example of a early holster. I will post photos when it is returned.

Thank you for the info on the other 1910 Ulanen marked Lugers. This is my third cavalry unit marked pistol.

klaus 3338 12-19-2011 12:34 AM

Jan, what would I give to have the occasion to ask him some questions!

Joe, your Luger is the fourth of the Ulanen 5 regiment I know to exist but I have never seen a holster for it. Do you remember the holster maker?

Best regards
Klaus

Any chance to see some photos of the holster?

How about unit mark "RD1"? This is on my 1910 serial number 5683d. Is that unit mark associated with a calvary unit?

Mike
This Luger is in my data base.
1910 DWM, sn 5683b, unit stamped R.D.1. which signifies: 1 Reserve Dragoon Regiment, Eskadron 1. (not exactly marked according to orders).
