Real, Repro, or What???
Some time ago I got lucky at a gun show... I actully found something that I'd gone out LOOKING FOR!!!
The object in question was a cheap Luger holster for my VOPO shooter. The holster in question was (A) in good shape, (B) fulfilled my needs admirably, and (C) only five bucks! What's not to like with that? After reading some of the stuff here re. the minutae of Luger holsters, I got curious about mine. The seller didn't know much about it... he opined that it's probably a West German police issue holster. After a cleanup (saddle soap, and Pecard's Leather Dressing) it came out in MORE than presentable shape and has been serving me well... but I thought I'd throw it out here for opinions. NO markings WHATSOEVER. Clearly intended as a Luger holster (note the mag pocket cutouts to clear the magazine plug finger pieces)... but it has NO pocket for a takedown tool, nor is there any sign that there ever was one. Any opinions on this beatie??? http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7007/6...ed37f8732e.jpg Luger holster front by Gavno The Ugly, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7028/6...d24f0d37ee.jpg Luger holster back by Gavno The Ugly, on Flickr |

Hi Tom,
Without a doubt, a repro. The quickest way to tell is in the quality of the stitching. Real holsters have a very uniform, even stitch pattern, using waxed linen thread. I can almost garrantee that if you take a match to that exposed ball of thread to the left of the interior of the holster, it will bubble up showing it has nylon content, a sure give-away. Also, the belt loops are not slanted, which they should be. Nice repro, though! |
W. German police post war Star model B, also used for post war Astra 600. Same pattern used for post war HP's with larger mag pouch.

Steve et al, I agree postwar German Police issue. Judging from the cuts at the top of the mag pouch, I'd say that this one was made for the luger, although the same basic pattern as for the Star B and Astras. TH
