US Commercial holsters
 

Two recently acquired luger holsters. The black one is sheepskin lined and quite unique. Would be better with black lacing. The brown one with the mag pouch is also different. I now have 80 plus commercial holsters. Need to quit this someday. I also have 40 WWI and II original German holstsers. I think I like leather as much as lugers.

Back in the 50's, I had a two-gun holster set for SAA's that I put two Mattel "Fanner 50's" in...They were made from a WW II bomber jacket; sheepskin w/the 'fur' on the inside of the holsters...Like yours...Laced up the edges...With 'drop hanger' belt loops made from sheepskin/jacket, too...

I think they were locally made...And I don't recall very well, but I think my dad got them from Card's Military Surplus...He got a lot of stuff from them...Like a couple of Hallicrafter military radios [aircraft models], that got all freqs...Police, military, airline...He was a 'ham' [W2JNR] and used to talk to other hams frequently...Our basement wall was plastered with ham postcards...and he had a couple wads of his that he sent out...

Cards had all kinds of GI stuff...Clothes, equipment, even vehicles...

The days of the real surplus stores are over. Today they are "Outdoor Stores".
I can still remember taking the bus into NYC in the 1960-70s to visit Kaufman's Surplus. They owned several warehouses on prime Manhattan real estate, (42nd St. just a couple of blocks from Time's Square and South Broadway, just up from Houston St.).
You could spend days in there and never see the entire inventory. They were also constantly receiving new inventory as goverment warehouses all over the world were getting rid of stuff. The glory days of military surplus.

It's hard to tell...but does the mag pouch on the brown holster have the same ball-and-slot closure as the holster??? It also looks like the mag pouch was made from one piece of leather (flap looks like the inside 'furry' side)...

It also looks like there is a 'plug' sewn into the muzzle opening...Hmmmm???

The mag pouch has the same stud and slot closure. The mag pouch is two pieces., one the body and then the closure flap. Yes the bottom is plugged. Bill

Doesn't the first one employ a post and spring clip common to US GI stuff, like canteen flap closures, entrenching took covers, etc?
Probably means nothing, but might indicate a US mfg.
Almost makes me think some FlyBoy is missing his bomber jacket.

Yes the snap is the same as on US equipment. I am quite sure both were made in the US. Hadn't thought about a bomber jacket. Very possible. Actually a nice holster as it totally encloses the luger. Bill
