1940 Mauser 42 -- SN 10000 no suffix
http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=3582480
The highest reported number in the 1-10000ns serial range listed by Hallock and van de Kant is 9204. |
Beautiful example of a 10000 serial numbered luger! This should put to bed the idea some people have that serial numbers ran from 1-9999. That number 1 with all those following zeros is impressive to the eye.

pictures are worth 1000 words. I still would like to examine the pistol.

I've seen a P.38 in that number but never a P.08! Thanks for showing. To bad there's no international shipping!

Bob, international shipping is no problem. One can buy the gun and have it sent to an exporter in Germany.
|
The seller has stated in his auction (NO international shipping) That's what I was referring to! either way not a good time of year for me to be spending that kind of money! :)
|
That was what I was referring to as well :)
-Ignore his 'no international shipping' policy. -Buy the gun. -Have him send it to a licensed German exporter. -Export it. Been there, done that. |

Is everyone satisfied with the frame serial number? does it look like there is overstammping there? How happy are people with the receiver and barrel number stampings?

I'd have to say that the front frame number looks a bit amateurish, but I'm having trouble seeing much else. The 00 on the takedown lever looks unusually far forward, but looking at other guns here I saw the same thing. I will say that the edges around the left side plate area look way sharper than the ones I have in hand, guns that are in pretty good shape, so I have to wonder about some restoration work.
But the nicks to the trigger guard show no "over-blue", so I'll have to sit back and try to learn something here... dju |
I'm not sure my memory is correct but is it not true that only Mauser P08s have been observed with a 10000 serial number?
|
Don, It has been my understanding that DWM did not go to 10,000 but to 9,999.
