Value of G dated S/42
8 Attachment(s)
My friend's grandfather recently passed away and her mom is now in possession of a G dated S/42 Luger. I would like to purchase it but she's like a second mother to me so I told her I'd ask around so she gets as much as she can for it. I know I'd probably have to take it to an appraiser but I'd like to know if anyone could give me a round about value.

You will need to determine if the internal parts and grips match, as well as the magazine (which I suspect does not). It seems to be a very nice gun, and while I'm out on a limb here, I'm guessing it could bring $2k. But these times are hard and premuim prices for Lugers just aren't being seen very often.
If you don't know how to disassemble it, search You Tube. And be extremely cautious lifting the left grip panel out of the top channel. Rotate the lower end forward while keeping the panel at a very shallow angle. Welcome aboard! dju |
Thanks for the response. It has 2 magazines, which I haven't checked if they have matching numbers. I just got into shooting about 3 years ago so I'm not even going to attempt to take it apart. She also has the reloading tool. At least from pictures on the internet, that's what i gather it is. I'm not sure if they have matching numbers.

Agreed, if you aren't comfortable with disassembly leave it alone.
Regarding value, if you were to get it for $1500 I think that is fair for both parties. dju |
