Need Holster Hanger for US. .45 Holster
 

Hey Guys.....Ive been a Member of the Forum for quite awhile....and its Fantastic......Ive got a question/request and forgive me but the part Im looking for is not for a Luger Holster but I would like to find the Metal Hanger for the US. .45 Hip Holster.............I was going to take one off an old worn out US Canteen Cover.....but got to looking at it and its dated 1918 and not that bad shape...so dont want to cannibalize it......would be glad to pay for the part.......and shipping........its one of those parts you see every day on holsters.....but just try and find one.!!!!!....talk about trivia....!!...Anyway...I appreciate anyone taking the time to answer.....Regards......Hans Fischer

What I've done in the past when I needed one of these was go to the nearest Army Navy store and buy the rattiest piece of period canvas gear I could find to salvage the wire hanger. As you say, they are not just lying around. You may also find that you will have to unsew the leather loop in the holster in order to get that bent wire all the way through.

Thanks for the advice....only problem is I live in Murfreesboro Tn....and there are no Surplus Stores here anymore.....nearest one is in Nashville...and I think all the "surplus" they sell anymore is made in China.........Boy..I can remember the "Good Ole Days" growing up in Chattanooga in the 50s....there must have been a half dozen Real Military Surplus Shops down near the river.......Brown .45 Holsters for maybe $5.00 to $10.00.....and that was when you could get a Nambu Pistol for around $20.00.......sigh.......Hindsight......thanks......Joe Fischer

Let me look and see. I take them off of Norwegian conversions all the time when I put on belt loops.

I used to live in Murfreesborough when I was a kid! Went to a giant High School there. Used to buy shine there in mason jars...

Joe, Your in luck..I have a very nice antique original Brass one. Would be perfect for a 1918 US holster!

Collector wise, it is better to leave the Norwegian conversions 'as is'. They will be worth more in the future with the hanger than being converted back into the German style.

I haven't seen one of these Norwegian conversions...Anyone have a pic??? :)

As I understand it from the limited discussion here, The Norwegians took German P08 holsters and added the wire hangers? Then Jerry takes those wire hangers off and adds the German-style belt loops???

Does anyone else see the irony here??? :D

Why are Luger holsters always canted towards the rear??? Why not hang them straight up & down??? (Like the US 45 holster) :confused:

So they won't shoot themselves in the foot.....;)

The Luger holsters were generally worn on the left side and canting them toward the rear made drawing the gun with right hand easier... the left hand pulled the inside strap which raised the grip high enough for the gun to be drawn. I would imagine that it also made riding in a vehicle a little easier, and made the gun accessible while sitting down. (Likely a GOOD thing in a combat situation...)

So that Norwegian MG-42 gunner has his on the wrong side??? :p Cross-drawing sounds reasonable...Most movies I've watched also have it worn on the right [wrong] side...

I suppose that would explain why GI's cut the drawstrap off and scalloped the inner front of the holster...and wore it on the right...

...And probably complained about it being canted the wrong way... :D
