1939 Luger Proof Marks
I'm trying to identify a luger for my father-in-law. I think I have most everything figured out but am having problems with the proof marks. Also, should the serial number on the side match the one on the front?
I have some nice high-res photos posted here: http://www.gregoryopt.com/luger/ Thank you! |
Mismatch shooter. Sn# don't match, looks like it was polished hard and reblued. The side plate barrel, and all #ed parts should match the front frame # or vise versa. Frame looks like it might be from an early 1940 mauser.

The proofs are E/63, E/63 LTP (late test proof.) There were a few E/83s in the N and O block. As Aptech says, heavily polished. Some edges that should be sharp are rounded. The upper would be mid to late 1939. The frame ???? Maybe even WWI.

Thanks for your replies. Sad it doesn't have matching numbers and has been reworked. On the bright side he only paid $25 for it 30 years ago. I've been investigating to see if it can be fired.

It looks like a great shooter. Enjoy!
