Luger carbine question
 

Thinking of building a Luger carbine, need sources for parts, mainly stock and forearm reproduction parts.any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm kinda new to working on Lugers, need all the help I can get! Many thanks in advance.

Remember that if you plan to use anything under 16" for the barrel it would have to be registered as an SBR.

Is this your first attempt to build a luger, much less a carbine. Heres is a misconception that the 1920 was built by scrap parts, Maybe the grip and grip screws. THESE WEREN'T GUNS MADE PIECE MEAL! THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER TRUSTED THEM TO HEADS OF STATE! John Martz is the only one I know to do it justice. Take a look on Gunbroker. Every now and then one will surface!One of Johns carbine is now being offered on Gunbroker and no one could do better.

Barrels and sometimes barreled receivers show up on GB quite often. Numrich and other distributors sold a bunch of them. Forearms...well, you got a knife??? :D

Welding/brazing that forearm lug onto the frame will be...interesting... :p

And you'd better set aside some time to tune it to your favorite load... ;)

Check with Tom Heller...Seems like he mentioned something to somebody some time ago about a 16" barrel...

Leave the surgery to the surgeons unless you have been down this road before.

Got the plans, some scrap frames to experiment with, and one of the best gunsmiths in the state working with me. All I need is good source for some of the pieces I'll need.This guy builds miniatures and is very capable.
I can make my own barrel, and probably can turn out the stock and forearm,but want to save as much work as possible. My background goes back almost 30 years building custom guns and gunsmithing. The only reason I never did a Luger was I never had one that I enjoyed shooting. I recently shot a buddies artillery Luger, and decided to give 'em another chance. I had hoped to aquire some information from your forum as to where to get parts. I can and will build this gun, it may take a while,but I'll post picks when it is done.

Thank you for the information, that's the kind of help I was hoping for! It can be done, after all, a gun is a gun, there is nothing magical about the Luger, just a lot of quality machine and hand work.

My first post here was about making my own artillery barrel. I also was pooh-poohed by some of the more pessimistic members here. I expanded my request for dimensions to a 4 page tutorial on barrel fabrication...Which was more-or-less favorably received by two or three members... :rolleyes:

Member Tennbill2 here has made his own Borchardt C93 from scratch. There is some talent here. Most tend to remain silent...A pity, as there is a wealth of knowledge here... :(

A pic of my last project. Started out as 4" 357 model 686, converted to 5" 44 special with target hammer and trigger, full action job, custom grips and sights.

GS, I may still have a few of Martz's Carbine parts in stock (forearm hanger, stock irons, etc) but no wooden parts. At one time, Replica Arms of Va. was offering a diamentionally correct (legal) repro M1902 type Carbine stock for around $500. TH

They are the finest!
