S/42 G Date Luger new acquisition
4 Attachment(s)
Here is my newly acquired G date, I need to get more pics, just got home late at night w/ this.... All matching on everything I could see externally except for the magazine. Chris... I'll get some more detailed photos up tomorrow hopefully to get a better idea on how I did, or didn't do...still an utter novice when it comes to Lugers...

Nice looking "G" date... Congratulations.
Pictures taken in indirect (shaded) light outdoors without the flash will make it easier to judge finish. Use the closeup mode of your camera and a tripod for crisp closeups of marked areas. My first impression is that it's in it's original finish. It's hard to judge the straw from these photos. I think I can make out inspection marks E/211 (Corrected to DE/63) S92 DE. If that's true, it's in the same variation as mine which is in the early "d" block. Looks all matching from visible numbered parts. Let us know the s/n (including letter suffix) for those that track "G" dates. I believe that a correct period magazine should have an aluminum base. Marc |
Kinda looks like DE/63 S92 to me.

What would be the correct magazine for this pistol? I have a copy of Still's Third Reich lugers for reference, but can't find it anywhere right now.....Chris...

Chris, What a nice G date. Quite a rare variatin by proof marks. The correct mag would be an aluminum bottom nickle body with a Droop Wing Eagle 63 Proof.

Chris,
I have a G Date magazine that would be close and correct for your gun. Email me at tharpo@sbcglobal.net if you are interested. Tom |
