Little Advice?

I am very new to the Luger dealing. Mr.Clark referenced this forum when I contacted him thru Ebay on some grips. I was led to him by a purchase I made of an Erfurt 1918 Police

that had smooth grips. Thanks to what I've read here I think I got screwed in the Luger deal but maybe not completely. The Erfurt is a non import but I'm not 100% sure it hasn't been reblued (thanks, Thor for the photos), but if so it was a long time ago due to wear consistencies.(Another discussion here) It was sold a "matching" but I didn't know how to take it apart or where to look. (Thanks for the references on where to find disassembly instructions). Its not matching on the internal parts or the toggle assembly. I paid $625 + $40 for the grips. Options: Keep it as a shooter/parts gun , bring it back to the pawn shop and raise hell for a refund or trade in on something else, or send it on down the line elsewhere and do the best I can. Its not a bad looking gun.

( I just got a 1981 book on the Radom pistol - history, productions numbers, variations, holsters, markings, ect. if anyone is interested)

Keep it and enjoy it. If it looks nice then enjoy even more. Import marked so called shooters are selling at $450 up. Don't let guys talk you into hateing yourself and the Luger because they think you paid too much and run down the condition. It is still a better investment than Enron or CDs at 2.75% The pleasure of owning and looking at the Luger is worth something. How about people who pay $100 for a seat at a game---and all they have left is a faint memory and headache.

I agree with Art. And remember, you now have a virus that will continue to multiply until you have to have a 2nd Luger, and a 3rd and a ..........

I've been having these unnatural urges to sell my AR15,M-1,.45,ect. in order to get another Luger. I've never looked at them before like this.

Those urges are expected, but still inappropriate. Sell your wife instead.

So you can have it all? No, I've got to keep her. God forbid she ever find out what I've got down there and how much I've spent on it.

I bought a bumper sticker at a gun show that says "My wife says if I buy another gun she'll leave me. I sure will miss her."

She bought one that said "You can always tell a GERMAN, but you can't tell 'em MUCH!"

Re: Little Advice?

I fuss about the guns but I worked for several years with two guys who were into the golf deal. $250 + a weekend on a regular basis wasn't unusual. Hotel for 2 nights, green fees, cart rental, food, BEER, travel expenses, and always the newest and latest toy to improve the game. And none of it was cheap. But my better half has never gone for the " it could always be worse" defense. I learned a long time ago that you don't have to tell your wife everything and she really doesn't want to know.

Enjoy the gun. With the way Lugers are appreciating, you didn't pay too much, you just bought it too early.
