Curio & Relic License Question (Long)

I read the BATF document ATF P 5300.1 1, which provides instructions on how to obtain a Curios and Relics Firearms License. Well, I'm an Engineer, not a Lawyer. So I am having a problem interpreting the document. In the introduction the document states that I need to submit an ATF Form 7CR, Application for License (Collector of Curios or Relics), with the fee of $30.00. In Para 178.44, on page 4, it states that I need to submit the ATF Form 7CR, accompanied by a completed ATF Form 5300.37 (Certification of compliance with State or Local Law) and a completed ATF Form 5300.36 (Notification of Intent to Apply for a Federal Firearms License). Do all three forms really need to be prepared and submitted in order to obtain the Curios and Relics License? I'm confused, and would appreciate some advice from those who have obtained a C & R License recently. Thanks in advance.

Chuck, just submit the first form, the 7CR with the $30.00. When they send you your license the other form will come with it and you will have to deliver or send a copy to the 'cheif law enforcement officer' in your area, I recommend sending it to the sheriff. This is his notification that you are a Federal Firearms License holder and intend to conduct activities associated with the license. You will then have to complete the last form certifying that you did this and then mail that form to ATF. Simple--remember the Goverment Paperwork Reduction Act??

Thanks Chuck. You might also be interested in this link

http://www.atf.treas.gov/forms/5000.htm#firearms has the ATF forms on it tnat can be downloaded and printed out. Requires that you have Adobe Acrobat to download them and has a link on the site to do that if you don't have it. Just back out the URL to the slash / before 5000 to get to the main form site.

I thought you had to have the Chief Law Enforcment Officer sigh the paperwork before you sent it off? Did I download the wrong form?
