Question about my luger

I have a 1912 german luger could anyone tell me anything about it. it does have some pitting as you can see by the pic's I got this from my father after he passed is there anything I can do to make it look better? what is it worth in the condition it is in. it is a all matching number gun except for the mag.
everything looks to be in good condition except the pitting.
thanks

0000 steel wool, nothing less fine than that and oil (light coat on wool); bronze wool even better.

Take grips off carefully (see warnings on previous threads about this), but push lightly from the inside while using your fingernail on an edge and pry them off gently.

Then clean the entire gun using the 0000 steel wool and oil.

It will look much better, but still have freckling.

Following Ed's directions, be very patient and gentle so that you don't start wearing away the bluing that is still present on the pistol. The strawed (golden colored) parts look like they are in pretty good shape in your photos, so don't do anything to them...

Your magazine is either an original that is not period correct or a post war magazine. Your Luger should have a wood bottom magazine, and I believe it should have a nickle plated body. Military pistol magazines would be numbered.

The original finish is part of the history of your Luger and the legacy from your father. Don't be tempted to have it refinished. It's of more interest in it's original state.
