Question before I buy
3 Attachment(s)
I going to buy a Luger 1939 42 Code Mauser pictures look real good all matching except grips and clip.
question what is this worth? what is the differance between a 42 and a S/42? it also comes with a take down tool and a 1937 voegels holster is this a good luger to collect? I don't want to get ripped off |
Hi Jay, Welcome to the forum! We can tell you little without some more information. Do the internal serial numbers match? How much are you being asked for this rig? Can we see more photos of the holster and of the magazine base? To answer one of your questions, 1939 42's are more common than 1939 S/42's, and are worth somewhat less. regards, Norm

all internal numbers match. I don't have a pic of the mag base but clip (Simpson & Cie droop eagle over 6) this is what he told me if this helps I will try to upload a pic of the holster
he is looking at the 1600 range |

Hi Jay, As far as I can tell from your photos, this rig looks like a good deal for $1,600.00. Some people would consider the plum colored receiver a negative (I don't), and Mauser grips are frequently un-numbered. On the plus side, you have that Simson magazine and the holster looks nice, too. Regards, Norm

Awesome that is what I was hoping for
by the way I'm new to this site and loving it so far!!! |
I would be interested in the Simson magazine if in good shape, well, any shape, but depends on how good of shape and if correct.
Would trade at least one nice correct S42 era mag for it plus / as i said, depending on the mag (expect a real simson mag to have a nickle body, eagle 6 on spine and 2 eagle 6 on base) email if interested ed_tinker@hotmail.com Ed |
Agree with Norme. If all matching this is a good deal. Bill

Jay,
It's hard to judge the finish of this Luger from your photos because of the focus and flash problems. If you can re-shoot them, try taking them outdoors, in indirect (shaded) light and without using the flash. A tripod and self timer will stabilize the camera, and using the closeup setting will let it focus more effectively. If this Luger has been refinished, it would be worth $1000 at best, plus the holster ($250) and the magazine. If it's original finish as it left the factory, it's worth more. Marc |
ok you guys will never believe this one.
story goes 20yrs ago i was 18 and had some lawyer bills i had to pay i did not have a job at that time so I had to take my luger that my dad gave me to the pawn shop and pawn it. I got $250 for it and 3 weeks later I went back to get it out of pawn to my surprise the guy said he never gave me money for the luger and the ticket I had was not his even after I got the police involved it was determined that I lied and was trying to get something for free from the pawn shop so I lost my gun. fast forward to last yr. I never did tell my dad what happened to the luger he just assumed I still had it. well 2 weeks before I lost my dad to cancer I told him the story and he forgave me. the day before he died he gave me a note and told me not to read it until he was gone we lost him the next day and I looked at the note it was his bucket list of guns to me. the first gun he wrote 1. your luger...haha fast fwd to this week ever since I lost mine I always am on the look out for lugers I replied to the gun above and talked to the guy through about 10 emails I meet up with him today and he was a C&R guy so he asked for my DL to record in his log I gave it to him and he took a double look and then asked my if that was really my name and I said yes then he showed me when and where he bought the gun it was 1/5/92 from the pawn shop I lost mine then he pulled a piece of paper out of the holster... see when I pawned mine I wanted to make sure It didn't get switched so I put my name and phone number on a piece of paper and placed it under the grip. Well the piece of paper he pulled out had my name on it my gun found me after 20yrs I still can't believe this happened all I know is my dad is looking down at me right now laughing |
