eBay rules change
 

I have been a member of eBay for many years; about 15 years if my memory serves me correctly. I have a feedback profile of of over 1500 poitive and at 100% positive.
I received a phone call today from an eBay repesentative, who wanted to discuss a few changes. I listened very well, but when he came up with this new rule, it really set me back in my chair. He said on Jan 01, 2012 are thereabout, a seller must include in his description a phrase that gives the buyer a fourteen (14) day inspection privlidge. If this is not included. the listing will be removed. I personally have a big problem with that. Not that I am not willing to stand behind what I sell, but here we go again. Let's give the consumer unconditional rights to return a product. Who knows what a person can do to an item once he receives it; swap it for an inferior product or break it and make somekind of repair. The list is endless. Your thoughts please?

An inspection period sounds like a good idea to me, as I have been "taken" on a few items I've purchased on e-bay.

Why don't you add that "all items that are returned must be in the same condition as sent".

Anyway, you will be in the driver's seat, as you will have both the money and the returned item.

To hell with the rules, if someone returned a broken or altered item to me, they would not get a full refund!!! By the way, an "inspection period" is not a "break it and then try to screw the seller" period.

I agree about the inspection period - to some extent.

I get tickets to the Kentucky Derby. Sometimes I cannot use all of them (sometimes i do) so I sell them on Ebay. The tickets are sent around 30 days before the event. The best selling time is when the tickets come out. So allow 7 days for an auction and a 14 day retrun right, and return mailing - that means I could be getting them back a week or less before the event - and might not have enough time to resell them.

Return in the same condition --- sure. Then there is an argument about who is right and guess which side Ebay will take.

Keep the money and the returned item - that will work only once as Ebay will freeze or close the account. Also, remember (since monies have to be sent thru Paypal), to clean the paypal account out or else they will either freeze the account or take the money from the account (or both).

I am not sure if they could go after the checking account or the credit card that is linked to the account. So that has to be looked into.

14 days is ridiculous. In the gun buying and selling world 3 days is the customary.

Ive been selling on Ebay for over 12 years.....feedback is over 5,000 Positive......and I have learned the hard way......Ebay favors the buyer ....PERIOD..!!....I get at least one "bogus Bidder"every other week.....they bid and dont pay......Ebay will do NOTHING to the Bidder.......however.....the Bidder can post a NEGATIVE on me but I am forbidden to post one on them.....I shipped a cap insignia to a girl in Australia.....she posted a complaint...she never received it....I called Ebay..discussed it with them...and faxed a copy of the International shipping receipt to them........3 weeks later....they gave her the money back...!!!!!....next day she sends me a sarcastic note...."I like the Pin".........I called Ebay up ...and I dare say people in two states heard me cussing them....12 years of pentup frustration came out.....i was yelling.....after I calmed down......the Rep said..."well...i see you have been selling for over 12 years...we will refund your money"....but that doesnt say it wont happen again.....a 14 day "inspection period".????...get it...play with it...let the dog chew on it...try to sell it at a gun show.....then if that doesnt work....send it back for refund......im getting off Ebay just as soon as i can........:banghead:grr::banghead::grr::grr:

Here's their online writeup... My guess is that many vendors will pick the "no returns" policy. Makes sense. If enough do it, it won't become a "negative" to push buyers elsewhere.

THe few items I have sold are used I give them plenty of pics from many angles and tell em to ax questions cause sold as is

eBay is a seller's market. Any change that empowers the buyer is for the good.

I started on Ebay on October of 1997. It was personal and fun.

Now it is a corporation and it is truly sorry but the alternatives are veritually non-existent.

Looks like NO RETURNS is the only policy to have... then the only time they can return an item is if the item doesn't match it's auction description/photos... I have purchased aboutt 350 items on ebay, but only tried to sell one. It sold, and NO RETURNS was specified... You can bet if I try to sell anything else, it will have lots of photos, and NO RETURNS... as my option.

hmmm, I don't like this rule; however, they came up with the 'YOU MUST TAKE PAYPAL" as a buyer I like paypal, but as a seller, I hate the double take from them?

Anyway, I will see what happens, most buyers are fine, but some are so picky it is awful, like Han's said above (5,000 positives, wow :))

I thought the man said: "every item for sale must offer a 14 return period or it would be yanked and not allowed to continue for sale."

After reading this...even those of you with much experience here are naieve concerning the maschinations of eBay.

A good Friend recieved notice 3 months later that the buyer of his flower stem winding machine wanted her money back..short story..it had broken after 3 months in her flower shop. Ebay sided with her. She got her $$ back. He got the machine
, made a small adjustment and it was working again.

No returns? That's laughable. Ebay pays NO attention to the seller. If the buyer is unhappy and asks..they WILL GET. Make no mistake.

I quit eBay as a seller several years ago and will not go back. As a buyer..I love eBay.

If I read all the notes correctly.......a Seller can either offer a 14 Day Inspection Period......which means the buyer...can buy lets say a cap..wear it to a function..send it back.!..or try to sell whatever it is at local flea market for a profit.!!..if that doesnt work..send it back ..after the dogs and the kids have played with it....OR....just state NO RETURNS....which is what Im going to do......but rarely have I ever had anyone want to return something.....if they send me an email....I tell them..."send it back...and I will not only refund your money...but refund your cost to return it"....this of course is something no other seller seems to do....but a $5.00 ship refund has gotten me a lot of repeat business.....Im easy to deal with but believe me...there are crooks out there....and I know from experience.....EBAY SIDES WITH THE BUYER I DONT CARE WHAT.....they dont give a damn for the Seller....even with 12+ years selling.....buyer can leave a Negative on me but I cant touch them.....and whatever they say....Ebay stands behind them......not the seller......IF...I knew some other place to sell....I would try it......I tried EPIER for couple of years....but hardly any sales at all......IM OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS GUYS....point me to another auction site..............

yes, me too, me and my dad have looked for other venues for years.

it has been a pain to deal with them, but a necessary evil because there aren't other venues out there for some items. Things sell better on ebay than on gunbroker or here on the forums, although I prefer to offer here first (Or Gunboards(

I have only been a "buyer" on Ebay, so my opinion is one-sided, but it seems to me that they have to be more buyer-oriented. Knowing that Ebay would most likely side with me in a dispute has made it more likely that I would part with my cash (which the seller gets instantly) in the hope that someone I've never seen before from somewhere I'll never be, will send me something I'm not able to touch or examine. The seller may be the most trustworthy, nice guy in the world but the buyer is the one who has to do the trusting.
