Brown Pigsskin????

2 Attachment(s)
Does anyone happen to be able to identfy this holster. The magazine slots aren't wide enough for the luger mags - I think. Also, what is the little pouch pocket (it's under the flap and is about big enough to hold 1/3 of a roll of tums) supposed to hold? The long slot contains a cleaning rod for perhaps a five inch pistol barrel.
Thanx

Your holster is for the Swedish Lahti. The small pouch held a screwdriver. Bill

Your holster is not likely pigskin but called pebble grain. The wet leather is roll pressed and imprinted with the small round pebble design. Exactly like a football. You can find pigskin that is pebble grained but I doubt if this holster is.
Look at the leather closely and if you find thousands of tiny holes in patterns of 3..it IS pigskin.

There should be a stamp of 3 Crowns symbolizing Swedish approval on the front flap. The color is correct. The vast majority were dyed black after the war.

As Bill stated, the small pouch held a screwdriver which was also a magazine loading tool. Many people have put this combo tool in the pouch backwards and the screwdriver tip scratches the right rear side of the pistol. These scratches are simply called, "chicken scratches" because the screwdriver pecks pits and scratches the metal.

I have a mint NOS brown holster and a dyed black one. Just waiting for the right Lahti to come along to complete my rig.

Duane, you also find the dannish air force ones that are black if memory serves me correctly.

That's twice I thought a holster was a pigskin. Next time I should check closer. I looked at the pattern on the leather. It is a peculiar design. Looks like pigskin to me - especially in a picture. From now on I'll be a Doubting Thomas.
What is an item like this worth? It's in superb condition at least I see it that way.
Thanks Jerry.

Lahti holsters are very common. So much so that no one is making repros. I would value yours in the $40.00-$50.00 range. Even loaded, 2 mags, rod, combo tool, you can buy them for $100.00 all day long. However, some people like the pebble grain look more than just the smooth leather.

CAP Black 08-28-2011 10:04 PM

I'll let this one go for $125.00

Conny 08-29-2011 02:21 AM

I paid $85.00 for my NOS brown holster. I suggest one of the auction sites (Gunbroker, eBay) if your trying to get $125.00 for it.

Good luck. :)

Mine includes both tools, if that makes any difference.
