New guy and alternate holsters

All,

This is my first post being a new member, so I wanted to begin by introducing myself. I'm married with kids, career Army- soon retiring, and my interests and hobbies revolve around WWII.

That being said, one of the things I do is collect WWII era weapons, but I'm getting my first Luger in a week or two (waiting for the transfer). It's a 1936 S/42, slightly mismatched, shooter grade. I buy guns more for shooting than collectability, and I registered here to further my Luger knowlege.

I've been browsing through over the past few days, learning more and looking for the answer to a question I have, but didn't find an answer.

So here it is:
Other than the standard hardshell, are there any other types of holsters for a P08, or that it will fit (softshell P38, Browning HP, etc.)? I know the spare mag and tool might not, but was mainly thinking of the pistol itself.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill (badjuju_4)

Welcome and a big Thank You! for your dedication & service!!!

I don't know anything about holsters...but there was a kind of neat looking French 'clamshell' holster for a Luger pictured here some time back...(think of a Nambu style holster)...

I've been on the lookout for one...It is definitely a conversation/argument starter... :D

Lots of holsters will fit a luger, but just not as well as a real holster?

It depends on what you are looking for, I have pictures of a luger that has been in a 1911 holster for 50+ years and it appears to fit fine.

If you are looking for a holster that will fit it for the range or taking outside, then there are still holsters made and many made over the years that were made for commercial look for lugers.

I always liked El Paso Saddlery's 1900 Test holster replica

All, thanks for the replies.

What I was thinking of was a holster a German Landser would have access to during the war. That's why the softshell P-38 and Browning HP's came to mind, if it would fit. I'd also like to stay with a military issue type, if possible.

To me it seems like the standard Luger holster with it's buckle closure would be detrimental in a situation where you'd need to draw your side arm quickly. The police model seem's more practical.

Anyway, I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks again,
Bill

All,

On another forum, someone answered that yes, a Luger will fit in a P-38 softshell holster. So, I'm going to get a repro P-38 holster to go with my German field gear, and an original P-08 holster to go with the pistol itself.

Thanks to everyone that replied.
Bill
