DWM sideplate
I have a friend who has - if I remember correctly- a 1936 Dwm Luger. Everything matches except the side plate. He needs a # 69 to make the pistol all matching. Will it be very hard to find one in that #, and if we find one, will it need to be fitted, or will it go on with no problems ?

possible, but not probable...
Hi HuntMaster, It would almost be as easy to find the original sideplate, as it would a correctly numbered replacement.. Here's what you have going against you... First, 1936 Mausers were rust blued, the vast majority of Mauser later production was salt blued... Second, unique font of the numbers.. I think at this point, the Mauser number stamps were a small, skinny tall font, I could be wrong on this, but at the very least the font was unique to Mauser... Third, condition, if you find any, they will most likely be beat! .. Fourth, fit, gotta fit and function, otherwise just a fancy paper weight... Now, that being said, don't give up, one of our forum members found the original correct side plate for a Krieghoff luger!!!... Infinitly more rare then a 1936 Mauser..:eek:... But, it happens!!! And, it can happen, just maybe not in your lifetime... ;)... Best of luck to you, til...lat'r...GT

Also the first two digits of the serial number are stamped on the inside of the side plate. You may find one with the last two digits on the outside but it still won't match until you match all 4 numbers, if it is a four digit S#.

ATTN WIL ROBINSON: A 1936 DWM luger doesn't compute. The toggle should be an S/42 or you've already got a mismatched luger. For the reasons stated above, it's nearly impossible to find the CORRECT MATCHING side plate for a Mauser PO8. TH
