It is a commercial gun which has been buffed and reblued. The "strawing" is so poorly done it almost looks like gold plating, (which it might actually be).

This is a poor restoration which ignored the gun's lines. If you are thinking of purchasing the gun I would only consider it at a price of maybe $700 or less.

Thanks for your reply. I got the gun from a friend in exchange for 5 lawn mowings. Can you tell me what caliber and model it is, as I know nothing about Lugers.

Thanks

If a pencil fits easily, its 9mm. If it just fits then its .30 luger.

Chris..This is a commercial pistol. It is proofed with a Crown N. I suspect it is in .30 Luger, not 9MM.
No real model except P08.

Big lawn??? Last time I hired someone to mow my lawn, I only paid $20...That was on a 100 x 200 lot...Now I have 3.7 acres and mow my own (1965 Cub Cadet Mod 71 :p )...but only about the same lawn size... :)

I like the 30 Luger; barrel is a bit short, but there are 5" barrels available for it...

Some bluers love to buff the snot out of a handgun... :grr:

Not a huge yard, I'd say a $30.00 mow.

Well, you got it cheap. Learn how to disassemble, clean, and lube it, and then go for a range session. Will probably turn out to be a great shooter.
Cruise the site here a bit and learn all you can about your new joy.

Hi Chris,
I beleive your Luger #7709p is classified as an Alphabet DWM commercial (formerly 1920 commercial). It was made in late 1926 or early 1927 for the commercial market. You need to show a picture of the top of the gun to verify this.
IMO, if it shoots, you did really well on this trade. There are no shooter Lugers available for less than $400 that I have seen lately.

They didn't have any ammo for it at my local store but the person I acquired it from had some. So tommaro I'm going to go fire some rounds off. Im thinking I will take it to a local gun shop here in PDX and see what they will give me for it, then again if I like it I'll just keep it.

After seeing the top, it's definitely an Alphabet DWM commercial.
If you shoot it, you'll like it.
