Vopo Byf

Some questions to Vlim ( and others of course ) that posted some interesting theards about Vopo's Lugers
This one came with Vopo Bakelit grips and two bottom-filed magazines renumbered ( 1 and 2 ) Is the marking " 9 mm para " under the barrel a Vopo mark ? On the receiver foot there is a " Kett " could this means that the gun was refurbished by the whole-saler Kettner ??? all parts have correct (matching) markings |
Hi,
The 9mm Para marking is not a VoPo marking, but is a later addition. This pistol has been reproofed (note the German Eagle/n, the Köln (Cologne) proof house marking and the year code IJ. (1989). Kettner is the gun house that had the pistols proofed (not refurbished). I have owned a similar VoPo with the same markings. Interesting to see that this receiver still has it's original barrel. |
Many thanks Vlim for this valuable information !
Are the markings Eagle/N, Köln proof house and IJ code of general use for post war german made ( or imported ) guns ?? I've already seen the Eagle/N on a replaced P08 barrel.. |
Yes, they are. They are also used on German (newly) made guns. The proof house marking may vary. Each proof house serves it's own region.

I came across this Kettner advertisement in an old copy of Deutsches Waffenjournal (DWJ), number 9 from 1987.
They probably got them through Interarms, who bought several batches of P08 pistols from the DDR government when the DDR was looking for some US currency. The DDR starburst markings were peened out in order to hide the fact that these P08 pistols actually came from an Eastern-Block country. |
What did the DDR Starburst look like? Did it have a little dot in the middle?

VOPO sun burst.
I have a VOPO Luger that I bought while stationed in Germany. If you go to: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=25216
You can see the VOPO markings. |
