This one http://www.gunsamerica.com//91493442...RCIAL.htm?wl=1 seems pretty reasonable to me for a purported collectible. But then again, I don't know everything...go figure. The offering has an inspection period, his other Lugers don't look like rip-offs, and it would fit my budget.
So, fellas, what's reality have to tell me, here? Anyone spot any red flags?

No mystery, That's about market for an original finish DWM 1920 commertial in 7.65 mm.

Does that mag. base look correct? Anyway, IMHO the whole thing is no bargain.
For the money I like this one way more...

The magazine does not appear to be original. Two pins, zig-zag spring (?) Strange indentations along the side. Different follower..

As Fred points out the mag is a poorly made Mexican reproduction. The pistol in general has the blue washed out everywhere worse than washed out in places.. The grips are nicked and scratched...It is a $500 shooter IMO.

David shows the pistol you should be interested in. Yes it's a little more but in this case you wouldn't be wasting a thousand bucks.

I think you are being too hard on the gun. I agree that the mag is garbage but the gun is mostly suffering from way over exposed photography. Less bleached out photos would improve the look considerably. I think the blueing is mostly there.

Doug, Look at the right side of the reciever...all along the top the bluing is missing..you can see good blue below. You are being too generous..many commercials have good bluing because they were not military and hard used but I think the photograph on this one shows it like it is. The one shot the seller dosen't show is the grip straps and I bet they are in the white.

I'm not trying to be hard on the gun at all. It just seems to me that a .30 Commercial just pales in collectability and investment value up next to a fine WW1 service pistol. The difference in price could be the best money ever spent.

Well, as Jerry has pointed out, by the time you pay for the shipping on this one, you are right at $1,000.00.

One thing to also consider is that this example is in 7.65mm and although that ammo is available, it is a lot more expensive that ordinary 9mm ammo.

You did not mention if you were going to actually shoot it; however, the cost and availability of the 7.65 ammo is something that bears consideration. IMHO

Thanks, all, for your observations--oops, I didn't initially catch the ground off stock lug, and already have one with this issue. I'll be trying a couple different Lugers to define better just what I want to collect. Until that point arrives, I'm after shooters, for the experience each one can give me, good or bad. But I'm depending on the forum to help me not get burned too badly and hung in a gun I ultimately would want to pass on to another caregiver. I agree that Mike's Luger is a much better value
