Fred Datig, R.I.P.
Echoing what John Moss has reported on Jan Still's Forum, Fred Datig was said to have passed away about two weeks ago. Apparently no funeral or fanfare. He will be surely missed and remembered as the author of the first real book on lugers. He was one of the luger experts interviewed on the History Channel's Tales of the Gun: The Luger. Another icon is gone!

I still have his book on Lugers. May he rest in peace.

RIP Mr. Datig and thank you for your contribution.

I remember him on that program, said when he got back to the States, the first thing he wanted to do was buy a Luger........and he did. He was a likeable person. Sorry to hear of his passing.

A true pioneer who opened the doors of serious Luger collecting and studying for everyone that came after him.
He will never be forgotten! |
I still have my first reference book by Fred Datig from the early 1960s. We should be thankful that Datig put his Luger knowledge and experience in a form that could be available for all of us to learn from. Many authors after Datig used his work as a basis for their subsequent documents.
May Fred Datig rest in peace in God's presence. |
