Luger Storage and Display

3 Attachment(s)
Here is my homemade Luger drawers made from the top section of a Craftsman tool box. Drawers are the heavy duty 80# weight. I made the racks out of aluminum bar stock, threaded rod covered with PVC, so there is no metal on metal contact with the pistols.

Back of tool box is screwed to back of gun safe, so the box will not tip when a loaded drawer is pulled out.

Now, I can store my pistols right side up where you can inspect the markings, identify them more easily, and avoid damaging the tops. I previously stored them upside down on a carpeted shelf (as my P.38s and PPs are seen on the top shelf).

A downward pointed lamp on the top of the gun safe shines directly on the opened shelves.

First pic is both drawers closed, then 2nd pic is bottom drawer open. Other pics are close ups of the redneck-engineered rack system.

More pics in next post.

Sorry. The rest of the pics are too large.

Go to Link to Reciprocal Thread that I posted on Jan's board to see those pics.

Looks Great!

That really looks nice, and quite a lot of lugers in a small space to boot! I'd make one small addition... I would cut some, a bunch, of small round discs or spacers, maybe 4.000" OD dia. out of .250" clear (or smoke) lexan, just to slide onto the pvc to space the lugers apart... just to cut down on the posibility of safe rash... Great job, nice set up... best to you, til...lat'r...GT

Thanks for the compliment. I did consider partitioning between pistols, and may still do so if need be.

On a slightly different topic: does anyone know if metal contact with PVC would be detrimental? I considered everything from 1" glass rods to plastic rods as a pistol rest. PVC seemed to be the easiest solution. Available and inexpensive to experiment with.

I'd do that too, if nothing else to avoid the possible domino effect if you happen to knock one down. The idea looks sound though, I might even steal it...

G.T. that's what I was thinking too! Spacers needed or they will suffer. Neat idea and it looks good. Like G.T., the idea I had involved spacers, but covered in some sort of cloth type material for padded protection.

The guns on the top shelf look like P.38's. You should have some P.38 love too and get them in the same set up.

Don't worry. Daddy loves his P.38s too. It's a work in progress. Everybody's got to wait their turn. :)

:jumper:

What P.38's do you have? We at the P38forum would like to see  No telling what those P.38's are....
